Psyche analysis The relationship between Pi and animals Zebra Hyean Hyean Orangutan Tiger-Richard Parker Cite pages
The zebra (Grant) represents several parts of Pi’s personality.

Pi’s weak side of his personality is represented in the zebra.

The zebra also represents Pi’s ignorance and innocence.

After witnessing the same events of the zebra hanging on to its life, the weakness in Pi dies.

What this allows us to understand about Pi, is that he went through many changes in a very short period of time.
“A hyena will drink from water even as it is urinating in it.”(Martel, 129)
“But I had not forgotten Father’s words. These were not cowardly carrion-eaters.” (128)

“They eat their own kind (the rest of those whose ears and noses they gobbled down as appetizers) once they’re dead, after a period of aversion that lasts about one day.”(129)

“The hyena spent a good part of the night eating.”(141)
“When it was no longer satisfied with the reach it had from behind the zebra……..the hyena started to slide into its victim.”(146) “And they are clever; anything that can be distracted from its mother is good.”(128)

“They are hardy attackers, rising up from buttings and kickings immediately, never giving up for simple lack of will.”(128)

“The hyena, with only its jaws, will overcome the ape because it knows what it wants and how to get it.”(144) WHO is Richard Parker?
