Boosting self organized design process of public lanes in Amidar neighborhood, Bat-Yam, Israel.

A project in the framework of Bat-Yam biennial of landscape urbanism
Amidar neighborhood has blessed with a multilayer street network which is unique to the Israeli cityscape. The neighborhoods urban pattern includes plenty of car free narrow lanes - a spatial network that we perceive as core structure for the neighborhoods social life.
The garden is also an archetypical medium between nature and culture.
The pedestrians lanes in Amidar are already contain valuable natural components both cultivated and wild.
Amplifying natural manifestations along the lane by its inhabitants might offer
sensual alternative path for the passerby, a path different from the parallel network
of "regular" streets; expending the modes of motion, the perception of time and the cultural experience of the walkers.
to add: simple map of roads and lanes.

The "garden" concept will be our wandering field while working with the local community on transforming chosen pedestrian path to safe and delightful sequence of places and events.
Why garden?
The garden have profound meaning as extension of the house, an intermediate space between the private - intimate place and the outside, those relating to the public lane as space composed of overlapping private gardens, may hold some promise on the social level.

the lane connects the neighborhood center with the Mazeva area...
the lane connects few synagogues...
good alternative path to Weizmann street...
520m long...
in poor conditions...
to add: simple map of roads and lanes + marking the chosen lane
[intro_4] the basic map
for the mapping platform we will create diagrammatic sequence of sections instead of the common plan. it should include the following information:
- the lane width
- the high of walls in both sides that define the lane

[first round]
lightning up the chosen lane
Why?
because the lane is gloomy and not safe at night
Where?
100-200 meters long section of the lane in its southwesterly part
When?
operation start up around the white night event at the end of June 2012
Who?
the team + residents (families that have their gardens adjacent to the lane)
How?
the operation includes 2 parts:
1
every family gets one modular solar lightning set with 2 spotlights.
each family will determine where to install the lightning set inside its own private garden and what exactly should be illuminated, following two guidelines:

use one spotlight to light up particular segment of the public lane that you believe is most needed
use the second spotlight to light up the most beautiful spot in your garden that can be seen from the lane
2
every family gets 5 marking sticklights to install temporarily on the public lane paving.
each family will choose the sticklights colors and the installation layout.
the assemblage of lighting that will be created along the lane, will be documented and integrated in any future retrofitting operation initiates by the local authority for this lane.
