Transcript of Autoscopy/Heautoscopy
which an individual
extrapersonal space. Autoscopy Heautoscopy Heautoscopy is an experience in which a
person is separated into two
physical entities. In a heautoscopic episode, an individual encounters themselves and is at the same time both people. In some cases, consciousness switches between the two bodies. This experience is closely linked to suicide as the sufferer cannot tell which version of themselves they really are. A man who wouldn't allow his name to be published was hospitalized after jumping out a window. Why did he jump? He woke up to himself shaking him and beating him. He kept switching between the bodies of angry him and confused him. He said "it was unbearable - being separated in two." In a drastic attempt to escape himself, he jumped out his bedroom window. Autoscopic episodes might have been referenced in many classic literary works. Seeing oneself has often been an omen of death - characters encounter themselves then promptly commit suicide.
