THEORIES ON WHY PEOPLE TAKE DRUGS:
1. Biology (The Body)
"People want to experience sensations in the body that feel either relaxing or stimulating. This might be to avoid pain or to generally feel a high".
2. Psychology (The Mind)
"People seek to experience different states of consciousness. As well as hallucinations, this also includes managing how they think and feel about their lives and their surroundings".
3. Social (Other People)
"People want to connect with others. Drugs are sometimes used as a bonding tool because they can be shared and make users less anxious about rejection."
"The part of the brain that forms memory is up to 12% smaller in those who smoke cannabis between 15 and 25"
"The bit of the brain that helps you to react to situations is up to 8% smaller in young people who smoke cannabis, and this lasts for the rest of their lives."
"Young people who smoke cannabis have more mental health problems like depression, and regular smokers are six times more likely to develop schizophrenia"
"In 6,000 B.C. tobacco began to grow in the Americas"
