The Holy Ghost helps us to . . . The Gospel of Jesus Christ How do we develop Faith? Attending Church Prayer Repent We believe Jesus Christ has the power to keep His promises, and we live accordingly. We have a desire to keep His commandments, and follow through with the things He has asked us. Sorrow Godly sorrow is being sorry that we have disappointed ourselves and God, not just sorry that we were caught. 17 Nevertheless, notwithstanding the great goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and marvelous works, my heart exclaimeth: O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities. Nephi in the Book of Mormon shows us the sorrow we should feel. . . Repentance is changing our thoughts, beliefs and behaviors that are not in harmony with God's will. Forgiveness Mosiah 3: 13
13 And the Lord God hath sent his holy prophets . . . that thereby whosoever should believe that Christ should come, the same might receive remission of their sins, and rejoice with exceedingly great joy. As we repent, we feel God's forgiveness, our guilt and sorrow are taken away and we have His spirit in greater abundance. What does it mean to have Faith? Our Faith in Christ helps us to know we can change and become more like Him. 2 Ne. 32: 9
9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; Charity Moro. 6: 5
5 And the church did meet together oft, to fast and to pray, and to speak one with another concerning the welfare of their souls. 1 Ne. 19: 23
23 . . . I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning. In Jesus Christ and His Atonement Alma 32 28. Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. . . . Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, Our Faith grows as we take the steps to nourish it, such as by following the commandments of Jesus Christ Each little commandment we follow brings us a little blessing in our life. Our faith in turn starts to grow as we see these blessings come. Joy, peace, and comfort We can make following the commandments a pattern in our lives. . . and our faith will continue to grow. As we follow the commandments we can see God's blessings come into our lives. . . . As the blessings come, our faith grows, just like the tree. Scripture Reading We can show Jesus Christ our repentance by making a promise with Him. Baptism In return, God promises to give us The Holy Ghost. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14: 26 Comforter Teacher Guide Holy Ghost is a . . . Holy Ghost 41 But if ye will nourish the word . . . it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life. Alma 32 The Holy Ghost continues to guide us in our lives as we continue to do the things Christ has commanded. . . . One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Mark 10: 21 Endure to the End We can make the changes by following this process: To sum everything up: We keep the Holy Ghost with us through: As we follow the Gospel it helps us to develop a relationship with God, our Heavenly Father. We know as we do the things God has asked and Christ has shown, we will be able to find joy, comfort, and peace in our lives no matter what our situation is. Moroni 10: 32 32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him Good Works As we stop doing the things that are wrong, it is important to not leave a space for sin to again creep into our lives, but start doing things which are right. 7. Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, or halt, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you; my bowels are filled with mercy. 3 Nephi 17: 7 Jesus Christ shows us the perfect example of always doing good works. Restitution We do what we can to correct any problems from our choices . . . they took their swords, and all the weapons which were used for the shedding of man’s blood, and they did bury them up deep in the earth . . . covenanting with God, that rather than shed the blood of their brethren they would give up their own lives; Alma 24: 17-18 Such as with the Anti-Nephi-Lehi's of the Book of Mormon; Confess To show our sorrow and desire to change we confess our sins to God We confess very serious sins to God's chosen leaders who help us repent. 42 Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more.
43 By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will confess them and forsake them. Doctrine and Covenants 58: 42-43 4 . . . I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; Enos 1: 4 Baptism is a promise we make with God. Alma teaches us about the covenant (promise) we make at Baptism as he taught the people in his day. Mourn with those that mourn. Comfort those that stand in need of comfort. Desire to come into the fold of God. Willing to bear one anothers burdens. Serve Him Keep His commandments. Mosiah 18: 8-10 We promise to follow Jesus Christ Christ Cleanses us from Sin Faith in Jesus Christ Repentance Baptism Gift of the Holy Ghost Endure to the End God sent His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Only Through Christs Grace and Mercy can we become clean from sin. We are to bleive in Christ as the savior of the world. We are responsible to accept Christ, repent, and obey. He wants us to accept and follow his teachings. Faith in Christ leads us to repentance. We feel godly sorrow. We receive blessings when we obey We stop doing things that are wrong and continue doing things that are right. We confess our sins, and we confess serious sins to Church leaders, who can help us repent. We receive forgiveness; guilt and sorrw are replaced by peace. An ordinance is a sacred rite by which we make Covenants with god A Covenant is a Solemn agreement between God and his Children Keeping covenants brings blessings When we are baptized we begin a new life of commitment Baptism must be preformed by one holding the Preisthood We renew our covenants by partaking of the sacrament Baptsim by immersion is followed by baptism of the Spirit; the two are inseparable. We change our behaviors which are not in harmony with God's will to follow Jesus Christ more closely. Process: Priesthood holders confer the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. The Holy Ghost teaches us, cleanses us,comforts us, testifies of the truth, warns, and directs us. We must continue on the path once we have been baptized and confirmed. We do our best to remain free of sin so that we can enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost We must continutally repent throught out our lives By faithfully following the gospel path of faith, repentance, making and keeping covenants, and recieveing the Holy Ghost, we can qualify for eternal life Let's go through this once briefly, and then we can go through a second time for more detail! :)
