The water cycle Describes the movement of the water on the Earth above and below the surface. The water is changing of one place to another place For example... From the river to the ocean or from the ocean to the atmosphere. The water... can be in three states: solid (ice), liquid (water) and gaseous (vapor) Consists of four different steps: EVAPORATION Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air. CONDENSATION Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds. This is called condensation. PRECIPITATION Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow. INFILTRATION Infiltration is the process by which water on the ground surface enters the soil underlying rock layers. and all over again and again...
