Causes of WWI
Vocabulary
Allied Powers: Alliance of Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Serbia, Belgium, and the U.S.A.
Central Powers: Alliance of Germany, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Bulgaria, Ottoman Empire (Turkey).
Alliance: Organization of countries that promise to protect one another.
Nationalism: Excessive pride in one's country taken to extreme.
Lusitania: British ship sunk by a German U-boat.
U-boat: German Submarine
Propaganda: Spread of ideas to help or hurt a cause
Woodrow Wilson: President during WWI; came up with plan for peace at the end of WWI.
League of Nations: Peacekeeping organization of nations after WWI.
Treat of Versailles: Peace treaty at the end of WWI that punished Germany.
Zimmermann Telegram: Intercepted message sent by Germany to Mexico trying to get them to join the Central Powers.
Fourteen Points: Peace plan created by Wilson to called for the League of Nations.

Purpose: To understand where the Central and Allied Powers are located on a map.

Directions:

1st. Pull out blank map of Europe and turn to page 122 in textbook.

2nd. Locate and label the countries that are in the Central Powers.

3rd. Color the Central powers RED

4th. Locate and label the countries that are in the Allied Powers.
