Step 1 : Question
What do you want to know?
What are you trying to solve?

Now, make an acronym to help you remember the steps.
It will be a sentence in which each word in the sentence starts with the next step of the scientific method.
for example, to remember the planets:
My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nachos
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
So you will use:
Question, Research, Hypothesis, Test, Control/Variable, Data, Graph, Analyze, Revise

GREAT hypothesis???
1. Make a hypothesis.
2. Sketch a design of your plane.
3. Write an explanation of your design (back it up with RESEARCH!!)
4. Ms Keefer must approve all work and take a picture in order to receive your materials.

What are you testing?
You are testing your hypothesis. You are testing a possible answer to your original Question!
What do you need to understand and incorporate into your test?
1. The basics. What are the basic steps you will go through?
We will put the gerbil into a maze with food at the end and will use a stop watch to time how long it takes for it to get out.
We will do the same with the guinea pig.

The maze will be made of cardboard and will be large enough that it does not hinder the movement of either animal.
2. The measurements. How will you measure your data?
We will measure the amount of time it takes for each animal to get through the maze in seconds.
3. The details. Be very specific about HOW you will do the experiment. This gives more accurate results.
*We will use the same maze for both animals.
*We will release the animals at the same place in the maze.
*We will start the stop watch as soon as each animal is released.
*We will use the same kind of food at the end of the maze (a piece of apple).
*We will not help either animal as they go through the maze.
*....what else can you think of???

Write 2-4 sentences in your notebook about today's poster.
When is a time that you wished you had thought before you spoke? Why? What happened?
We need to collect measurable data as we go, so we can have accurate information.
1. Use a chart to collect information in an organized way.
2. Run your test more than once.
3. Double check your numbers.
4. Find averages.
We want to also consider what we observed while we ran the test, because it helps us better understand WHY the numbers look the way they do.

(about 4-5 sentences)
about how you did on the midterm.
Were you happy with your grade?
Did you study? How much?
How do you plan to prepare for the next test we have in here? (Unit 1 exam)

Research your type of graph.
Write down notes that are important on the purple paper.
Draw an example.
Describe it!
What does it best show?
Where do you put the controls and variables?
Now try it!!!
What kind of graph will you use to graph your paper plane data?
1. Graph your paper plane data in your notebook.
2. Under your graph, write about WHY you chose that type of graph.
When do we use it?
examine methodically and in detail the constitution or structure of something, (especially information), typically for purposes of explanation and interpretation.
How to analyze!
1. What does your graph tell you?

2. Compare the data (how far the plane flew) to your written observations. What do you notice about the planes that did/did not fly far?

3. Look at your paper plane and think about WHY it flew the way it did and traveled the distance it traveled. What about your plane design might have influenced how far it flew? What improvements can you make so it will go even farther?
Answer all questions in complete sentences in your notebook. ALL GROUP MEMBERS should record this in their composition book.
