Analysis of Sports Performance- Assignment 1
Ellie Sostman
Ray Lewis is a retired American football player. His motivation was the reason why he become a american football player.
How does diet affect sports

Having an unhealthy diet can mean you will become tired and also can lead to you performing poorly.
Eating a balanced diet with enough fluids can help provide the energy you need for your sports. However, depending on which sport you do will depend on how much of each nutrients you need.

What is Diet?
Diet is the sum of food consumed by a person. Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reason.

Novak Djokovic
In 2010 Novak Djokovic change his diet to a gluten free diet, this was because his doctor Igor Cetojevic said that he tended to fade at majors — physically breaking down during long matches against elite players, this was because of his diet, and once he switch to a gluten free diet his performances improved massively.

What is Confidence?
Confidence is learned, it is not inherited. Self-confidence is essentially an attitude which allows us to have a positive and realistic perception of ourselves and our abilities. If you lack confidence, it probably means that, as a child, you were criticised or undermined. A lack of confidence is not necessarily permanent but it can be if it is not addressed.

How does confidence affect sports performance?
If you have a high level of confidence in your abilities, you tend to not doubt yourself in a game. That can be very important if you need to think quickly or react fast to something. If you don't have high confidence, you may not be able to play up to the level you are really at or when you.

Fernando Torres
Fernando Torres is a professional football player, who currently plays for Chelsea. In 2007 Liverpool signed Torres and during his spell at Liverpool he was known as one of the best strikers in the world. In 2011 he moved to Chelsea for 50 million. His self confidence dropped and he is now not the same player he used to be when he played for Liverpool. To improve his performances he needs to work on having more self confidence.

Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic Motivation- refers to motivation that is driven by an interest or enjoyment in the task itself.

Extrinsic Motivation- refers to the performance of an activity in order to attain an outcome (e.g money or fame)
How does Motivation affect sports performance?
Motivation can affect sports performance positively. If the participants are not in a positive psychological state then they may not be able to perform as well as they should. If an athlete has a bad performance in the game before, this can then be used as a motive to get motivated and improve for the next time they perform.

Ricky Hatton
Ricky Hatton is a former professional boxer. Between each fight Ricky would 'famously balloon' in weight, this was because of his poor diet. He was eating lots of fast foods and fry-ups. Ricky used to gain weight and lose it very quickly (know as the 'yo-yo diet'), because of this diet it means he will suffer in the future because he will gain weight a lot faster than usual.
Hot weather- Your body has a natural cooling system that delivers more blood to circulate when exercise and increased air temperature take their toll. However, this leaves less blood circulation for your muscles causing your heart to work harder and beat faster. Humidity also plays a role, as it prevents sweat from evaporating from the skin, causing body temperature to rise even more
Cold weather- Increase dryness and, when temperatures are at freezing cause the heart rate to work harder to keep the body at a stable temperature.
How does Temperature affect performance?
In hot temperatures your body will produce a lot of sweat, this is because it is your body's way to get rid of the heat. When you sweat you lose water and if you do not replace the water that has been lost through sweat then you can become dehydrated which will then affect your performance .
Low Temperature can affect sports performance in many ways. The main affects of cold temperature would be muscle cramps and players pulling muscles due to them not being stretched properly. This is because the muscle elasticity needs to be warm to work efficiently
Qatar World Cup 2022
The Qatar World Cup football is meant to take place in the summer of 2022. However due to the heat it may have to be moved to the winter. In the summer of 2010 the temperature reach its highest of all time in Qatar, it registered above 50°C. The players will struggle to play if it is in the summer months and also the fans will not be able to watch the matches as the stadiums will be too hot.
Team Cohesion
What is Team Cohesion?
Team cohesion is commonly defined as a dynamic process that is reflected in the tendency of a group to remain united in the pursuit of its goals and objectives.
How does Team Cohesion affect sports performance?
If you are part of a team that does not have a strong cohesion then you are most likely not to perform well. This is because you will not know how each individual plays within your team.
Manchester City
Manchester City are an example of a team that has not got a very strong team cohesion. They have been criticised constantly for under performing on a European stage despite dominating domestic competitions. They appear to have more than enough quality to win at home but fall well short when competing with the best abroad. One of the consistent commentaries in terms of this failure to achieve is a supposed lack of unity in the dressing room. No team cohesion, no mutual respect or common goals
Foundation Level
Elite Level
Foundation level- is the early development of sporting competence and physical skills (e.g. throwing, catching, hand-eye co-ordination) upon which all later forms of sports development are based.
Purpose and Resources at Foundation Level
Purposes- At Foundation level the purpose is to learn and understand basic skills making sure it is enjoyable at the same time.
Purpose and Resources
Purpose- The purpose of analysis at this level is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of teams or individuals. Therefore by identifying the weaknesses they can then work on areas that they need to improve. They also use analysis for goal setting.
Resources- At foundation level there are not many resources of analysis, this is because at this level it usually starts at school. This means that there is not much time or money to have analysis. An example of a resource at this level would be a school report, this would contain a report about how a pupil is progressing at foundation level and where they need to improve for the future.
Video- Foundation Level
Elite level- is about reaching the top and applies to performers at the highest national and international levels.
Resources- There are many resources for analysis at this level, this is because they have the time and money to invest in the technology. For example in football they use Prozone this is a type of analysis that can help identify a individual or teams weaknesses.
