WHAT IT IS
COR is a program designed and offered by WorkSafe, but administered through indusrty partners. In the consruction industry the lead administrators of the program are :
BC Safety Alliance (BC CSA)
Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA)
An auditor comes to your company and assess how closely you follow your safety program.

They will:

Read & Review
H&S manual, training records , Inspection schedules , meeting minutes , safety warnings, hazard inspections, emergency plans, risk assessments.......
ascertain it contains the proper items (practices , processes & procedures
asses if the items meet their criteria
know what it says
Interview Managers and Workers
find out if they know their rights and responsibilities
judge if they know what is written in the manual
asses their level of understanding of the manual
ask if thy follow it.
Make Observations
Visit the sites your employees visit
Visit facilities owned and connected to your company (warehouses, mobile labs)
Walk around your facility and look for evidence that you are doing what you said.

Once the assessments are done, the results are tallied, and you are scored on 14 different elements.
You must pass each element individually and a achieve a passing total of the combined scores .
How it works ............
ISNETWORLD
To become a member of ISNET , you must have a safety program that meet their standards for compliance to laws , regulations and oil and gas industry requirements.
Once you are a member , the system houses all your ongoing health and safety documentation for you &S Program, reviews and assess the quality of it and rates it.
the more quality data you accumulate that meets the requirements of your program the better you rate.


ISNET also matches hiring clients with contractors like us. These matches are made based on ratings.
They can provide exposure and help build your profile to clients that are not in your network

The Metro H&S manual is the foundation of your program.It contains all the policies, practices and procedures (instructions) you will need to begin.

Once you have started collecting data... you can apply for COR status. this will allow you to bypass some pre-qualification requirements and make it easier to procure work.

Once you are up and running there is the opportunity to become an ISNETWORLD member .
This is an expensive commitment, and the value of it is directly related to how well you manage and participate in your safety Program.

Start collecting data
Data
As you collect your data make sure to sort out a system that works best for your services, staff and office.

Assign n appropriate person to review the data and make note of issues that crop up


Actions
Bring your staff together at reasonable intervals and review the issues list that was created

Assign a knowledgeable person to each issue. they can
resolve it
investigate it
research options
At the next meeting review the status of the old issues and note the progress
Review new issues and assign them to people.
ALWAYS WRITE DOWN THE ACTIONS YOU ARE TAKING
TIME
As time passes and you have gotten used to managing data properly and documenting actions ... include another element from the COR checklist

The more you do and the more you take ownership of your program the better it can serve you.

Certification
A COR audit requires 6 months of documentation. this does not include the time spent incorporating the program into everyday work life.

COR certification allows you the use of their logo on all your materials
Often means that you do not have to go through pre-qualification procedures , and if you do , you have a majority of the information at the ready.
COR also means you will receive a rebate on WCB /WorkSafe rates in your qualifying year and discounts as long as you maintain your status.

The Metro Manual was originally designed for the oil and gas industry

The ISNET and PICs are like professional headhunters for safety and process compliance. they can be an opportunity for exposure to large contracts and projects if you are willing to meet and maintain their standards .

These are great programs, but not a cheap or easy one to maintain. Developing your Safety Program COR as an objective will be easier for most of you. For our Northern and Albertan branches this is not an option since much of there work is n or around the oil an gas sector.

Where the true partnership lies is in each Branch customizing the existing Safety Program to reflect their needs and service and uniting the programs.

In this way we can operate with the trust that we can use each others services, represent each other and collaborate knowing that we all meet a consistent standard.

There are other safety certification membership groups emerging, their sole purpose is to ensure that internal programs are active and participated in .

This is the binder that every branch received an pre-organized copy of last April complete with forms collated to processes and procedures.

This is the Manual that every branch has made available to ts employees as per WS regulations.

This is also known as the binder no one has opened in a while - and whose updated version is in DropBox.
