Confirmation: The Gateway To The Holy Spirit What is Confirmation? Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments. It is also one of the sacraments required for Christian Initiation. In Confirmation, a bishop blesses a person's forehead with oil, as a sign that they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit Today, we'll learn: * What is Confirmation? * What happens during it? * What does it mean? * What must you do to
recieve Confirmation? * What is the Holy Spirit? * What is a bishop? The Holy Spirit is the third person in God. In the Bible,
Jesus said " The Holy Spirit shall descend upon you." This meant that the Holy Spirit would be with the apostles always. The Holy Spirit also helps seal people
with the gift of God. The Holy Spirit also
gives us the 7 gifts which help us live as Christ
wanted us to. * What are the fruits
of the Holy Spirit? The Gifts of the Holy Spirit As said in the previous paragraph. there
are the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are:
*Fear of the Lord

These "gifts" help us to live as Christ wanted us to,
in love and care in others. These gifts also help us to
grow closer to God and each other. What Happens During Confirmation? During Confirmation, the candidate, which is the
person receiving Confirmation, will stand before a
bishop. The bishop will then anoint the candidate's
head with Sacred Oil. Sacred Oil is a sign that the
candidate is now blessed by the Holy Spirit and they
are now sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.* * The gift of the Holy Spirit should not be confused
with the 7 gifts stated earlier. What is a Bishop? A bishop is a priest that has risen through the ranks and has earned the title of bishop. The bishop is a person that participates with the candidates in the sacrament of Confirmation. The bishop is the person that anoints the candidate with Sacred Oil, as said before. The bishop will alsosay a blessing over the candidate so as to show thatthe candidate is blessed with the Sacred Oil and theblessing of the Holy Spirit and God. What Does Confirmation Mean? Confirmation can mean quite a few things.
Confirmation means that you are sealed with
the gift of the Holy Spirit. It also means that
your bond with the Holy Spirit and God in
general is now strengthened through the gifts of
the Holy Spirit, the anointing by of Sacred Chrism,
and by the laying on of hands by the bishop. What are the steps you must go
through to receive Confirmation? There are a few, crucial steps you must go through
to recieve Confirmation. First, you must be a Catholic
Christian. Second you must have received the first two
sacraments of Christian Initiation which are Baptism and
Eucharist. Next you must have picked a new name, usually a saint's name. Lastly, you must have a sponsor with you during the Confirmation Mass. While there are not many steps you must complete to receive Confirmation, these steps are crucial in being able to receive Confirmation. Side Notes As a side note, the name I have chosen for Confirmation
is Phillip. I have chosen the name Phillip as my Confirmation
name since Phillip was an active follower of Jesus. One day
when the Roman Authority was arresting all those preaching
the name of Jesus Christ, Phillip went against their law and
went to the temple and preached the good news of Jesus Christ to all people, regardless of Roman law. This act showed that Phillip was willing to preach the name of Jesus, no matter the consequences. Key Points * Confirmation is one of the sacraments
to complete Christian Initiation

* The Holy Spirit is a key part of Confirmation
and makes up most of the Mass

* You must have recieved the sacraments of
Baptism and Eucharist to recieve Confirmation

* The bishop administers the Confirmation Mass

* Without the gifts of the Holy Spirit, Confirmation
will mean nothing to us Thank You for Watching! Works Cited "Confirmation Zion Deerfield." Zion Deerfield RSS. N.p., n.d. A sponsor is the person you choose to help lead you in your faith. For a person to be qualified to become a sponsor, they must be the same religion (Catholic) and they must be over the age of sixteen (16.) The sponsor you choose must be a good example and guide you in your faith. Remember the above when choosing a sponsor for your Confirmation. "Kayla's Doves."
