Native Americans lived in America before the Europeans arrived.
Navajo is a Native American tribe in the U.S.
A reason why colonist came to America was for religious freedoms.
Africans were often taken to America and sold as slaves.
The colonist fought the British for the right to self-govern.
The Declaration of Independence was signed July 4, 1776
Thomas Jefferson was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence.
Ben Franklin became famous for being a U.S. diplomat.
The Constitution was written at the Constitutional Convention in 1787.
The Federalist papers were written by Alexander Hamilton and others to support passage of the Constitution.

George Washington is considered the "father of our country" and was the first President of the United States.
The U.S. bought the Louisiana territory from France.
Virginia was one of the original colonies and became a state.

The Civil War
The Civil War was fought between the Northern and Southern states.
Economic difference was one problem that lead to the Civil War.
Abraham Lincoln was the President who preserved the Union.
Lincoln also issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed slaves in the Confederate states.
Susan B. Anthony fought for women's rights
The Spanish-American War was fought during the late 1800's
Woodrow Wilson was President during World War I.
Franklin Roosevelt was President during the Great Depression and World War II.
Dwight Eisenhower was a general in World War II before becoming President.
The U.S. fought Japan in World War II.
The Korean War was fought in the 1900's.
During the Cold War the main concern of the U.S. was Communism.
The Civil Rights movement tried to end racial discrimination.
Martin Luther King tried to bring equality for all Americans.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists attacked the United States.
