Reactions: Right vs. Wrong
Transgender Abuse:
Leelah Alcorn
Since transgender teens experience abuse from their peers and families, which can result in their death, mainly suicides, for example Leelah Alcorn, laws need to be written to protect their right and the rights of all children who are abused.

-Emotional abuse
-Verbal abuse
Is it immoral?
Yes. If a parent makes their child feel worthless to the point where their child takes their own life
Is it legal?
-No, most types of abuse are illegal.

-conversion therapy
should be illegal.
-50% of transgender teens will have at least one suicide attempt by their 20th birthday.
Transgender Violent Tracking Portal Findings:
-in the first four months of 2014, 102 acts of violence against transgender people have been logged.

-A 14-year-old was strangled to death and stuffed under a bed
-Two 16-year-olds were shot to death
-Three 18-year-olds were stabbed to death, dismembered or shot
-Two 18-year-olds were murdered with no details being reported
-An 18-year-old suffered two violent attacks by a mob and survived
Wrongs/Inappropriate Reactions:

Leelah Alcorn’s mother denied that Leelah committed suicide, instead saying it was an accident. Parents still call Leelah by male pronouns and names.

"We don't support that, religiously," Alcorn's mother told CNN on Wednesday, her voice breaking. "But we told him that we loved him unconditionally. We loved him no matter what. I loved my son. People need to know that I loved him. He was a good kid, a good boy." -CNN
Quote From Mother:
-Transgenders face the highest rates of abuse among the LGBTQ+ community.
-“22-38% of trans people have been harassed by police, with upwards of 15% experiencing physical abuse and 7% being sexually assaulted by law enforcement. Trans people have also experienced violence at the hands of healthcare professionals.

-26% experiencing physical assault and 10% living through sexual assault.
Leelah's Law
Leelah's Law is a petition to ban the practice of conversion therapy that is preformed on LGBTQ+ teens such as Leelah.
This is NOT enough. We must also seriously enforce and fight for the rights of children who do receive abusive treatment from their parents.
Social Reactions
Kardashian West, Kim (KimKardashian). “Just read about a transgender teen, Leelah Alcorn who took her own life because she wasn’t accepted. We need to learn acceptance…#BraveSoul”
