Transcript of SOFTBALL

This is my research project on softball. My prezi is on the history and different parts to softball. Thank you for listening! I hope you enjoy!
Fielding is where you are playing defense. When somebody hits the ball you field it and try to throw them out. There is different positions like first,second,short-stop,third,catcher,pitcher and outfield. Outfield has 3 different parts or positions. One is right field, then center field, and left field. When fielding there can be different ways the ball is hit to you. One is and ground-ball which is a ball that travels on the ground to get to you. Another is a pop-fly or pop-up which is a ball that travels threw the air to get to you.
I truly love softball and I currently play for the Central Ohio Lady Vipers. I play first base, I pitch, and I also play all positions in the outfield. I have been playing softball for a couple of years and I have also played both rec. and travel. Softball is a great way to stay active and meet new friends. Honestly if I ever had the chance to thank those guys I would.
Pitching is a big part of softball. It is where a player is on the mound and that player goes threw a motion/wind-up to pitch the ball to the batter so they can hit it, but the pitcher hopefully wants to strike them out.
How It All Started
Hitting is another very important part to softball. Hitting is where the pitcher pitches the ball to a player with a bat in their hand so they can try to hit it. If you miss the ball 3 times you have been struck out. If you barely hit the ball or it goes outside the lines of the field it is foul. There is also another way to hit a ball to get on base. This way is to bunt. Bunting is where you barely hit the ball between the pitcher, catcher, third baseman, and first baseman.
Softball started Thanksgiving Day of 1887, when a few alumni sat in the Illinois Farragut Boat Club, waiting for the outcome of the Yale vs Harvard football game. When Yale seemed to be winner, a Yale alumnus threw a boxing glove at a Harvard supporter. The Harvard fan swung at the glove with a stick, and the rest of the group looked on with interest. George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, called out, “Play ball!” and the first softball game was played, with the football fans using the boxing glove as a ball and a broom handle in place of a bat.
