Cross-dock Simulation Model Overview Filling Trailers with Goods Arriving Trailers 1 Arriving Trailers 2 Unloading Goods Pallet Batching Moving Across the Cross-dock Loading Outgoing Trailers Resources Plot 1. Construct operational model that represents basic steps performed in Building A.

2. Populate model with test data to make sure it runs as expected

3. Add those measurement tools that allow one to evaluate cross-dock performance (UPenn w/ NRS).

4. Populate model with sufficiently realistic data to assure its validity (UPenn w/ NRS).

5. Exercise validated model to determine bottlenecks, areas needing investigation, etc. Steps in Building the
Simulation Model Possible Performance Measures (to be discussed) Distance traveled by the forklifts

Queue lengths (determining bottlenecks)

Number of items not delivered within 2 days

Operational costs Inputs Required 1. A schedule or distribution of vehicle arrival times on consecutive days for 2 weeks.

2. Vehicle contents by destination for 2 weeks (as Eddie supplied for a single day).

3. Number of available forklifts.

4. Number of available forklift drivers/pullers. (This can vary by day/time.)

5. Number of available container/trailer unloading persons. (This can vary by day/time.)

6. Number of available trailer loading persons. (This can vary by day/time.) How to Coordinate We are willing to help gather input data and to format required inputs.

Could NRS provide one person to evaluate our work, advise and assist in getting data?

How about buying ExtendSim for NRS?

Are the funds available for supporting one or two of our students in future work?
