COMPILING THE QURAN
Compiling the QURAN
THE PROPHET (PBUH) ASSIGNED ZAYD TO DOCUMENT THE SUWAR AND AYAT WHEN THEY WERE REVEALED TO HIM. SO WHEN RASOOLULLAH USED TO RECIEVE SOME QURAN FROM JIBREEL, ZAID WOULD WRITE IT DOWN.
ZAID's great work
During the time of battle of Yamama, many memorizers of Al-Quran were matryed. Omar Ibn-ul-Khattab requested Abu Bakr(RA) that Quran should be compiled before others were matryed.
ZAID COMPILES THE QURAN
Abu Bakr called Zaid, entrusting him with such an important matter.Zaid went on collecting ayaat and suwar from memorizers&scrolls. He matched, compared, revised the templates until he collected all Quran in one place.
He arranged all the scrolls in one copy of Quran. These scribes were use to hearing and learning Al Quran from the Prophet(SAW) himself.
Islam was spreading during the time of Khaleefah Uthman Ibn-Affan.So, he ordered that the Quran be copied&distributed to Muslim cities.
Zaid was called with other Sahabas to carry out this mission. He brought the scrolls of Al Quran from Hafsah (RA). Zaid started his mission of the Khaleefah by copying the scrolls at Hafsah's home.
ZAID ACHIEVED TWO GREAT MISSIONS IN THE HISTORY OF ISLAM.
1) He compiled the Quran in the time of Abu Bakr
2) He made 7 identical copies at the time of Uthman.
