Run to Win!!
Another year now opens its fair unwritten pages before you. The recording angel stands ready to write.
Your course of action will determine what shall be traced by him. You may make your future life good or evil; and this will determine for you whether the year upon which you have just entered will be to you a happy new year.
It is in your power to make it such for yourself and for those around you.
{ML 5.2}
Angels of God are waiting to show you the path of life. . . .
Decide now, at the commencement of the new year, that you will choose the path of righteousness, that you will be earnest and true-hearted, and that life with you shall not prove a mistake.
Go forward, guided by the heavenly angels; be courageous; be enterprising; let your light shine.
{ML 5.4}

A new year of your life now commences. A new page is turned in the book of the recording angel.
What will be the record upon its pages? Shall it be blotted with neglect of God, with unfulfilled duties? God forbid.
Let a record be stamped there which you will not be ashamed to have revealed to the gaze of men and angels.
{2T 268.1}

1.
Get on your MARK!!
2.
Get READY!!
3.
GO!!
If it is your work to till the soil or to engage in any other trade or occupation, make a success of the present duty.
Put your mind on what you are doing. In all your work represent Christ. Do as He would do in your place.
{COL 359.4}
But many Christians are waiting for some great work to be brought to them. Because they cannot find a place large enough to satisfy their ambition, they fail to perform faithfully the common duties of life. These seem to them uninteresting.
Day by day they let slip opportunities for showing their faithfulness to God. While they are waiting for some great work, life passes away, its purposes unfulfilled, its work unaccomplished.
{COL 360.3}
The unused capabilities are as much brought into account as are those that are improved. For all that we might become through the right use of our talents God holds us responsible.

We shall be judged according to what we ought to have done, but did not accomplish because we did not use our powers to glorify God.

Whatever our work, God is honored by wholehearted, cheerful service. He is pleased when we take up our duties with gratitude, rejoicing that we are accounted worthy to be co-laborers with Him.

1 Corinthians 9:25

And every man that striveth for the mastery
is temperate in all things.
Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
1 Corinthians 9:27

But
I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:
lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
{I rule my own body strongly and I make it my slave - EasyEnglish}
‘And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered [it] out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught [him] by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.’

1 Samuel 17: 34-36
‘The Lord had chosen David, and
had ordered his life
that he might have an opportunity to train his voice, and cultivate his talent for music and poetry.

The Lord was preparing him
in his solitary life with his flocks, for the work he designed to commit to his trust in afteryears.’
{Signs of the Times, June 8, 1888 par. 1}
Never aim lower than to become competent in the matters which occupy you.

God demands of you vigorous and earnest intellectual efforts, and with every determined effort, your powers will strengthen.’

{S.D.A. Bible Commentary Volume 3 pgs1161-1162}
‘Joseph's checkered life was not an accident; it was ordered of Providence. But how was he enabled to make such a record of firmness of character, uprightness and wisdom? It was the result of careful training in his early years.
He had consulted duty rather than inclination; and the purity and simple trust of the boy bore fruit in the deeds of the man. The most brilliant talents are of no value unless they are improved; industrious habits and force of character must be gained by cultivation.
A high moral character and fine mental qualities are not the result of accident. God gives opportunities; success depends upon the use made of them. The openings of Providence must be quickly discerned and eagerly seized upon.’

1 Corinthians 9:24
... So run, that ye may obtain [KJV]
{So RUN, in order THAT YOU MAY WIN - LOGOS}
‘If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, go out sweep streets like
Michelangelo or Raphael
painted pictures; sweep streets like
Beethoven
composed music, sweep streets like
Shakespeare
wrote poetry. Sweep streets so that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to stand and pause and say,
“Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.”’ -
Martin Luther King Jnr
If you can’t be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley – but be The best little scrub by the side of the rill
Be a bush if you can’t be a tree
If you can’t be a bush be a bit of the grass
And some highway happier make
If you cant be a Muskie, then just be a bass
But the liveliest bass in the lake!!
We can’t all be captains, we’ve got to be the crew
There is something for all of us here.
There’s big work to do & there’s lesser to do
And the task we must is the near
If you can’t be a highway, then just be a trail
If you can’t be the sun, be the star
It isn’t by size that you win or fail
Be the best of whatever you are

1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Many do not become what they might because they do not put forth the power that is in them. They do not, as they might, lay hold on divine strength.

Many are diverted from the line in which they might reach the truest success. Seeking greater honor or a more pleasing task, they attempt something for which they are not fitted.
{1MCP 342.2}
Many a man whose talents are adapted for some other calling is ambitious to enter a profession; and he who might have been successful as a farmer, an artisan, or a nurse fills inadequately the position of a minister, a lawyer, or a physician.

There are others, again, who might have filled a responsible calling, but who, for want of energy, application, or perseverance, content themselves with an easier place.
