Aiken was a U.S. inventor and mathematician who invented an electro mechanic machine that could perform mathematical operations quickly and efficiently. Its official name was the IBM Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator, but most people knew it as the Harvard Mark I or the Mark I. It was presented to Harvard University on August 7, 1944 but it was eventually disassembled.
After completing the Mark I, Aiken produced three more computers. Its major purpose was to create tables, and it could also add, subtract, multiply, divide and reference previous results. The idea of creating a 3D printer was first developed by Charles Hull in 1984. 3D printing is the process of using a digital model to make a three dimensional solid object, by placing layer upon layer of materials, such as metals, plastics, polymer or paper. The materials can either be cut into thin layers and shaped, and then joined together, or melted or softened to create layers. This process is then printed and repeated until every layer is produced. In the future, 3D printers may be used for constructing buildings, spare parts, replacing faulty goods and even creating replacement organs for the human body, which is known as bio printing. 3D printing is also being used to produce spacecraft parts for NASA. Recycling computing equipment can keep harmful materials out of landfills, prevent mountains of waste from forming and the recycled equipment can also replace equipment that would otherwise need to be manufactured, which saves energy and emissions. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1213kMys6e8

Its name refers to the blue laser which is used to read the disc, and the “e” from its name was removed due to trademark purposes. The information stored on a Blu-ray is at a greater density, and the video is compressed better, resulting in a higher quality video than a regular DVD.


Blu-ray players not only play Blu-ray discs, but also CDs, DVDs and burned content, as the discs are the same size, although, Blu-ray disc can hold significantly more data. Blu-ray players have provided society with a greater quality image to play at home, and soon a single disc will be able to store up to 6 hours of video. In 1992, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a label which promotes energy-efficient monitors and other equipment, called the Energy Star. Manufacturers are trying to make a PC that is designed to reduce waste and chemical emissions. Three ways in which they are trying to make this “green machine” are by:
1.Maximising the product’s energy efficiency during its lifetime
2.Reducing the amount of hazardous materials used
3.Recycling computing equipment and devices used and promoting the recyclability of the product
