Avatar: The Last Airbender
Transcript of Avatar: The Last Airbender
Through the Lens of the Epic
The Epic Plot
Avatar: The Last Airbender takes the heroes on a long journey that spans their entire known world. Typically traveling on a sky bison named Appa, they encounter strange creatures, large-scale events, and treacherous weather.
The landscapes in Avatar are fantastic and varied. The heroes travel through swamp, forest, desert, snow, ocean, and the sky. The four major regions are the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe, and Air Nomads.
Avatar is full of standard archetypes but is unique in how it gives many of them a twist. The archetypal hero, for instance, restores harmony to his world without killing the villain, contrary to the guidance of his mentors.
Aang: The Epic Hero
Aang possesses superhuman strength in the form of mastering all four elements: earth, fire, air, and water. He embodies the tradition of peace that his world has been missing for one hundred years. Aang is ultimately victorious in his quest to defeat the Fire Lord and restore unity to the four regions.
