Christoph Columbus discovered America in 1492
cheap labor became rare
Living conditions
Depending on time, place and the ruler
plantation slavery on sugar cane and cotton plantation hardest conditions
exploited, mistreating and punishments were usual
marks with cautery, whip, bondage, hunger, thirst and mutilation because of the lawlessness

Work slaves had to do
rurale slavery:
slaves who had to work in agriculture and plantation economy
urbane slavery:
slaves who worked in the household, crafts, harbor or transport industry
the third type was the work in the
mining industry
The rising of 1831 in Virginia
Nat Turner was the leader of the rising
70 slaves killed about 60 white man and woman
Later the slaves were defeated by military and militia
Nat Turner was able to flee
After he got found he was under sentence of death
