The bill and Melinda gates foundation tackles critical problems in four areas. Their global development division helps the poorest people lift themselves from hunger and poverty. Their global health division, aims to using technology and science to save lives in developing countries.

Malaria occurs in nearly 100 countries worldwide. 200 million people suffered from the disease in 2010, and about 655,000 died from Malaria. Malaria is caused by parasites that spread by mosquitoes. Some symptoms include: high fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, and anemia which can be dangerous for pregnant women. Children who survive malaria can suffer long term disabilities.
Malaria is their top priority, they concentrate their resources in areas where existing funds are limited. They committed more than $1.4 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
The goal of the HIV program is to reduce the global incidence of HIV significantly and sustainably and to help people infected with HIV. They focus their efforts in the poorest countries, where they believe the resources have the greatest impact. The foundation has committed more than US$2.5 Billion in HIV grants and research around the world.
