By: Anthony Santiago My 5 Literary Terms Foreshadowing An example of Foreshadowing was found on page 86
paragraph 2 in The Time Machine. The example is,
"And then in then in the remote blackness of the gallery
I heard a peculiar pattering, and the same odd noises I
had heard down the well." This is an example of a Foreshadowing because it is inferring to me that something was going to happen. This use of Foreshadowing term helped increase my understanding
of the story because it helped me see that it isn't a very nice place were he is at. An example of personification was found on page 97 paragraph 1 in The Time Machine. The example is,
"It was my first fire coming after me." This is an example of personification cause a fire cant come after someone. This helped me better understand that he was being chased by a fire and he need to find weena and get out of there. Simile An example of a Simile was found on page 99 paragraph 1 in The Time Machine. The example is, "It seemed an overwhelming calamity. Now, in this old familiar room, it is more like the sorrow of a dream than an actual loss." This is an example of a Simile because it uses the word like and describing how the room is like a sorrow of a dream. This helped me better understand that he was very angry and sad that he lost his only friend that he had on that planet. Flashback An example of Flashback was found on page 112 paragraph 3 in The Time Machine. The example is, " I saw one thing that seemed odd to me. I think I have told you that when I set out, before my velocity became very high, Mrs. Watchett had walked across the room, traveling, as it seemed to me, like a rocket." This is an example of Flashback because he is going back and remembering what happened before. This use of Flashback helped me better understand that he can remember things from a long time ago. 5 Literary Terms

Pr. 4 An example of an imagery was found on page 82 paragraph 1 in The Time Machine. The example is, "I found the Palace of Green Porcelain, when we approached it about noon, deserted and falling into ruin. This is an example of imagery because it tells me the surrounding. This use of imagery helped me better understand what the place looks like. Imagery Personification When i read "I awakened Weena, and we went down into the wood, now green and pleasant instead of black and forbidding." on page 80 paragraph 2, it made me think of when I look outside and all i see is darkness and cant even see my porch until evening and i feel like I can see the world again. It helped me better comprehend that it was nice and Murlocks were not trying to rip him to shreds because it was evening. When i read "I was determined to reach the white sphinx early the next morning, and ere the dusk I purposed pushing through the woods that had stopped me on the previous journey." page 91 paragraph 1, It made me think of when someone try's to get in my way but they cannot stop me because im so determined to do it. This helped me better comprehend that he wasn't going to fail this time around. When I read "The machine was standing on a sloping beach. The sea stretched away to the south-west, to rise into a sharp bright horizon against the wan sky. There were no breakers and no waves, for not a breath of wind was stirring." page 107 paragraph 2, it made me think of a nice relaxing day. This helped me better understand that he was probably dreaming that he got the time machine back and he is willing to do anything for it. When I read "I saw one little thing odd to me." on page 112 paragraph 1, it made me think of my dad because when we clean he wants everything perfect. This helped me better understand that he didnt think something is right with what he saw and he wants to say something or change the thing that is wrong. When I read "Presently I got up and came through the passage here, limping, because my heel was still painful, and feeling sorely begrimed." on page 113 paragraph 3, it made me think of when i just got back after soccer and im all sore and tired. This help me better understand that it wasn't easy coming back after all he has been through.
