International Medical University (IMU) is a private medical and healthcare university
Established in 1992
3,300 undergraduate and graduate students
Main campus in Kuala Lumpur, also campuses for clinical schools
Kampung Angkat Project launched in 2007 as part of IMU Cares
IMU Clinical School in Seremban adopted the village of Kampung Tekir
Population of about 500, with 50% under the age of 12
Surrounded by a palm oil estate
Purpose: Enable medical and nursing undergraduate students to practice their knowledge and skills in a rural setting
Villagers benefit from free health checks, health education and treatment of minor ailments
Village has gained an access road, improved community hall and regular access to electricity and water
Substantial reduction in obesity among villagers
Students are exposed to new diseases and are able to develop their clinical skills
Program expanded to include dental and chiropractic students in addition to nursing and nutrition students
Village requested IMU to stay for 3 years beyond planned program period
American University in Cairo (AUC) is an independent, non-profit, non-sectarian and multicultural university, founded in 1919
There are roughly 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students
Main campus in New Cairo, Egypt and a downtown campus in Tahrir Square
Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement
Lazord Academy was developed out of civic work at the Gerhart Center in 2011
Vision: Lazord seeks to graduate a generation of civically responsible and skilled leaders that play an active and engaged role across all society's sectors
Name comes from the Arabic name for Lapis Lazuli
Select group of students expand skills in ethical leadership, civic engagement and strategic philanthropy
Students have 9 hours per week of knowledge sessions, mentorship, guidance and group projects, both on and off campus
