Hyperbole: An exaggeration. Pun: A play on words in which you make lots of meanings of a word. Verbal Irony: A figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant Personification: When you give an animal or object human-like characteristics. Alliteration: The repetition of one letter in a sentence. Simile: A comparison of two things using like or as. Metaphor: A comparison of two things not using the words like or as Onomatopoeia: A word that imitates the sound that it is describing. Imagery: A term that is used to describe any type of sense that can be pictured in your head. Understatement: When you make something that's a big deal seem not important.
