The Negative Effects of Technology and Social Media on Communication

What communication issues related
to technology were illustrated in the videos?
Employees can never "get away" from work
Difficult to get away from family during work
Being on call stresses employees out and hinders productivity
Technology creates many issues regarding communication.
4 main subissues include:

Less face to face communication
Technology allows for constant contact (especially outside work place)
Communication limited by lack of knowlege of technology
Technology creates a misrepresentation of reality

Technology allows us to misrepresent reality
Social media is a highlight reel not a documentary
Zilla van der Born pretended to go on vacation but in reality she never left her hometown

Blurring the Lines
Face to Face Communication Hindered

Technology is fostering impatience
Spoken language is necessary for mastering communication
Creating gaps between individuals
Communication is misinterpreted
The Solutions
Spread awareness
No contact hours for jobs and no contact vacations
Learn and teach other technology

Make others aware of this epidemic
Encourage face to face contact
Discourage overuse of social media
Define Line Between Work and Home
Constant Contact Blends Work
and Home

No contact hours for employees
Avoid "on call" at all costs
Turn off your phone!
Make an effort to learn and teach others how to use technology
