Back to School Night

Thursday, September 27, 2012 WELCOME!!!
Thank you so much for coming
out tonight!! So, who is Mr. Zeger?

Where did he go to college?

What does he teach?

When did he come to Antietam? This is my 5th year at Antietam.

I grew up in Upstate NY, and have lived in
Virginia for 7 years.

I went to college at St. John Fisher College
in Rochester, NY Mr. Zeger's Class Expectations:

All students are expected to follow the Code of Behavior.

Students will read 30 minutes per night every night Homework, Graded Work, Corrections

Homework is not graded, but is checked for completion and reviewed the next day.

QUizzes and tests can be corrected for a 1 letter grade raise if all work is shown. Extra Credit Opportunities

There are tons of extra credit opportunities. Students can create projects either on paper or on the computer.

There is a list of these activities in the classroom and on our class website. Grading Scale

A 90-100
B+ 87-89
B 80-86
C+ 77-79
C 70-76
D+ 67-69
D 60-66
F 0 – 59 Attendance

if your child is late or absent, please send a note so the office has a record of it.

All computer programs used in class can be used at home
Class website and 5th grade portal both contain games for every math unit.

- Used every day in class
- Multiplication facts
- Each missed fact requires a redo of that fact
- Can be done at home

Students should read every night. Books can be read with someone or independently. Students are encouraged to check out books from the library.

Spelling words are assigned on Monday and tests are given on Friday.

Spelling words will be written in each child’s agenda every week. Homework Continued:

Math homework will go home nearly every night. Assignments will not be long.

There will sometimes be an additional assignment in writing, social studies, or science. Positive Incentives:
We have "Preferred Activity Time" at the end of each day
This is based on classroom behavior and work completion
Students choose from a list of academic activities. Some count as extra credit. Parent/Teacher Communication
