Functions of the Excretory System
The excretory system keeps the chemical makeup of the blood at a constant state.
Homeostasis- Internal stability maintained by the body
Excretory System- Rids body of chemical waste
Negative Feedback Loops- Returns a system back to its original state
Parts of the Excretory System
Kidneys-Regulate the water and salt balance in the blood, then filters extra secretes urine
Ureter-Carries the urine from the kidneys to the bladder
Urinary bladder-Temporarily stores urine until it can exit the body
Urethra-hole through which urine exits the body
Skin: Small amounts of urea (waste) also leave the skin through sweat
4. Urine is transported to the bladder and awaits exit from the body.
3.Remaining filtrate (ex. extra water, salts, some toxins) is secreted into urine.

1. Blood pressure forces water and other solutes (substances such as salt), into the kidney. This filtrate passes through millions of tiny filtration units.
2. Water, nutrients, and some solutes are reabsorbed into the blood.
The excretory system is a negative feedback loop as it returns the chemical makeup of blood back to its orginal state.
The blood is filtrated and extra water is secreted into urine and forced out of the body.

The brain creates feelings of thirst and directs the kidneys to reabsorb more water when filtering the blood.
