Wind: tornadoes, hurricanes
Precipitation: drought, flood, blizzards, rain storms, lightening, heavy fogs Changes Occurring - 30% increase in precipitation is predicted
by the end of the 21st century
- By 2050 there will be an increase in annual precipitation of 55mm in Peterborough
- Sea ice melting; critical for traveling between communities during the winter and hunting
- Summer warming; new insects & diseases
-> Thawing of permafrost Thawing of Permafrost
Will Cause: -Shifting grounds
-Sinking/collapse of the ground

-Research & educational capacity: enhances or promote societal understanding of adaptation & the actions that can be taken - June of 2002 ptbo experienced a 1 in 100 year event storm requiring provincial disaster assistance.
- July of 2004 ptbo experienced a 1 in 290 year event storm for a second time costing over $100 million in direct damage. A state of emergency was declared to clean & restore major functions of the city.
