Compare/Contrast Essay "The Gift of the Magi" & "The Necklace" DELLA VS MATHILDE One sentence, usually at the end of an introduction, that identifies the topic and declares what you believe or what you intend to prove in your essay. OK - so what is a Thesis Statement, exactly? This is important - write this down! DEFINITION: it is NOT Let me tell you what a thesis statement is NOT: The two short stories are about married couples who are quite poor. An Introduction A Question Can you see the differences between the two female characters? A Definition Sacrifice is the surrender of something special for the sake of another person, object, or goal. A Fact Della loves Jim. A Good Thesis Statement
in a C/C Essay: Clearly states the topic and then your opinion of the topic. Names the two things being compared/contrasted Gives the audience an idea of the order in which they will receive the information. Though Della and Mathilde have many things in common, the two women of the story are actually quite different in the manner in which they act towards their husbands, their physical appearances, and their living conditions. Step 1: Steps in this process: State the topic and/or the precise opinion. Step 2: Offer the blueprint (3 reasons). Step 3: Combine into one concise sentence. Homework: DUE TODAY Develop a C/C Thesis Statement for the female characters in the two short stories, "The Gift of the Magi" and "The Necklace". Example Thesis: by: Ms Colantoni In one sentence, state the topic to be discussed and offer 3 pieces of evidence that will be discussed.
