George Lerner of New York City invented and patented Mr. Potato Head in 1952. Based on an earlier toy called “make a face” that used a real potato, Lerner designed his all-plastic toy as a prize for cereal premiums. Lerner sold Mr. Potato Head to the Hassenfeld Brothers of Rhode Island, who owned Hasbro Inc., the toy company. Hasbro sold the first Mr. Potato Head with a styrofoam head as a base for the facial plug-ins. However, instructions were included that suggested the use of vegetables and fruits instead of the styrofoam.
BARBIE DOLL
Mr.Potato Head
Is there anyone left on the planet that doesn't know what a Barbie doll is? Barbie dolls are sold nearly worldwide. In 1959 Ruth Handler invented a plastic doll, the Barbie doll and "named it" after her daughter, Barbara. There are even lines of Barbie-inspired cosmetics and clothing, and a new live Barbie stage show for 2006. All this for an 11 1/2 inch plastic vinyl fashion doll.
"Peanuts"comic strip
When Schulz sold his first strip to the United Feature Syndicate in 1950, it was the Syndicate that changed the name from Li'l Folks to Peanuts - a name that Schulz himself never liked.
