Italy Germany Unification of Italy and Germany 1800 1900 1850 1825 1875 1805 1810 1815 1820 1830 1835 1840 1845 1855 1860 1865 1870 1880 1885 1890 1895 Rome was made the capital city of Italy. 1871 Italian troops invade Rome when austrian troops abandon the city. 1870 1866 Italy joins Prussia in the fight against and they gain Venetia Sicily and Naples join the kingdom of Italy 1861 Piedmont won freedom of Lombardy and they unite 1859 March 8: Milan succeeded in expelling the Austrian garrison 1848 Austrian forces invade the kingdom of Naples 1821 Piedmont sent troops to support British and French in the Crimean War 1854 August 24: Venice falls to Austrian forces, along with other northern states February 18: Victor Emmanuel II assumes title of King of Italy with an Italian parliament under him August 12: Italy ends war with Austria after Prussia signs armistice July: Napoleon III calls back Frenchtroops from Rome 1800 1850 1900 1805 1810 1815 1820 1825 1875 1830 1835 1840 1845 1855 1860 1865 1870 1880 1885 1890 1895 August 6: Emperor Francis II gave up the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation 1806 King Wilhelm I is given the title of kaiser or emperor and Bismark is titled Chancellor. Prussian King Wilhelm I appoints Otto von Bismarck to be his prime minister. Franco-Prussian War 1870 - 1871 German empire is proclaimed. 1871 May: Frankfurt Assembly meets and proposes a plan for the unification of Germany and the Prussian king refuses to take the crown. 1848 Jan 28: France signs an armistice ending the war. Nov: Southern German states (apart from Austria) agree to join a German Empire 1870 July: North German Confederation created by Bismarck, made Prussia the most powerful German state 1868 Jan: Austria and Prussia go to war together against Denmark. 1864 The Treaty of Tilisit between Napoleon and Prussia. Prussia looses great amounts of land and becomes a vassal of France. 1807
