A guy from New York names T.L. Williams invented mascara because he was fascinated by dark eyelashes from films. Paul Poiret encouraged the trend after 1970 by designing women's clothes for an uncorsetted figure 1910 fashion Influential events of the time Men's trousers were worn cuffed to ankle-length and creased. Skirts rose from floor length to well above the ankle; women began to bob their hair, and the stage was set for the radical new fashions associated with the Jazz Age of the 1920's. Simple felt hats, turbans, and clouds of tulle replaced the styles of headgear popular in the 1900's The Art Nouveau began to emerge at this time and its influenced was evident in the designs of many couturiers of the time Famous trend setters and social status apparel Mary Pickford was the first movie star. The most popular sihouette throughout the decade was the tunic over a long underskirt When the Paris fashion houses reopended after the war, styles for 1919 showed a lowered and even more undefined waist the Birth of a Nation the movie was a big impact on fashion Rich women were more luxurious fabrics and lower class women wore less expensive clothing. Colors and Patterns famous during the 1910s Solid Colors were popular. Lace was very popular. Different Outfits for Different Occasions. For Ragtime Balls women wore long skirts that fell quite straight Accesories were long white gloves, shoes in a color to match the gown, with a medium heel. Hair should be worn up and was usually dressed with decorative headbands or feathers. For casual wear, women wore tea dresses. For athletic wear, skin was mostly covered. For buisness casual, women wore button up shirts with v-neck dresses. Interesting facts .. The divorce rate of the 1910s was about 1/1000. The invention of the sewing machine was a reason they started wearing loose fitting clothes. Bob cuts were very popular in the 1910s. People started wearing silk scarves after the movie 'Titantic' was released. Theda Bara, a silent movie actress, she was a "vamp" character. Which was "exoctic women luring men to ruin." She made vamping popular for 5 years.
