Tips to keep in mind: These will be burned into your brain by April!
Tips for the Reading Section:
Read the passage FIRST-
Do this well
- looking at questions first will NOT help with this section
Be sure to answer ALL questions for each passage (4 passages) before moving on- you will forget!
This section is difficult- Be sure to understand the passage and THEN answer the questions...
Take a look at your individual scores.
On the pink and grey PLAN sheet- look at the Composite Scores box on the top left side:
On the other board, you need to go and put a
in the column that you did the WORST on for EACH category of English and math.
ACT Test Basics
As a junior, you will be taking the ACT test in TWO weeks! This test is used as placement and acceptance into colleges. It can also help to override basic courses you would take in college- you are able to "test out"
Tips for the Math Test:
Questions are arranged by difficulty: Easy to hard
If you can't find the answer, or it is taking too long to solve it- skip it and move on. Come back if you have time!
If you are running out of time be sure to guess on the remaining questions- you have a 20% chance of being right- never leave questions blank!
"Cannot be determined from given information" - Be careful of this- make sure there is not an alternative way to solve the problem.
You can use a calculator, but use your brain first- it works faster!
Welcome to ACT prep Review!
Tips for the English Test:
Make your choice and move on- you do NOT have time to second guess yourself
DO NOT read the passage first-
go straight to the questions.
Only read the parts of the passage that you need to in order to answer the questions.
Do NOT be skeptical of "No Change"- it is just as likely to be a correct answer
Avoid repetitive answers- your answer should get to the point
Vocabulary: The weirdest word choice is often the correct answer
"DELETE the underlined portion" is very often the correct answer
