Terrance Stanley Fox was born to parents Rolland and Betty Fox. Terry was born on July 28th, 1958.
As a child terry was a very determined athlete competing in sports like soccer, rugby, basketball, and baseball. Out of all the sports he favoured basketball the most. During highschool Terry did exceptionally well. He excelled in acedemic and physical activities. In his final year of highschool he was voted the best player on his team for basketball. He also got athlete of the year While driving home on November 12, 1976, He accidently got into a car crash but only came out with a sore right knee. As the pain increased during the month he went to a doctor who diagnosed it as osteosarcoma, a form of cancer that starts near the knee. The doctors had to amputate his right leg to stop the cancer from spreading. During therapy he came up with the idea to run across Canada while using his artificial leg. Although not sure of it, his parents finally went along with it and on April 12th, 1980 Terry dipped his leg in the Atlantic ocean and began his 5300 mile trek. Why is Terry Responsible?
Terry is responsible because he kept his promise to kids and adults around the would to run and raise money for cancer. By keeping his promise that shows responsibility. Also he put himself out there by trying to be in commercials and interviews to raise as much money as he can. Terry had to push himself to raise the money even though he was tired. All these traits show responsibility. Overall Terry is a hero to all canadians and everyone around the world he moved so many people with his act. Terry will always be remembered. During his final months here on earth, Terry new his time was short but he kept fighting. He had lack of breath while running, And was over-tired.
With his family around him on June 28 1981, Terry lost the fight and cancer overwhelmed him. He had two statues made for him. One in Ottawa and the other in Thunderbay.
