In my view, the most memorable person in my life
is a professor I met when I was working in New York last summer.
I choose him for a few reasons.

First,
he showed me a different way of life which is so fresh, so different from what we have here in China. You could just be yourself and not be the person your parents or boyfriend want you to be.

Second of all,
he told me to fight for what I want and say no the things I don't want to do. It's awesome because a traditional chinese girl like me was told to obey and endure silently all my life. I will always be grateful to him.

That's why he is the most memorable person in my life.

graduating from high school
was the most memorable experience from school for a few reasons.
First,
it was very exciting,
for example
, before I graduated, I work very hard, and study for my finals so I had a lot of stress, so knowing that I was going to graduated, give me the feeling of comfort and excitement, knowing I have finished.
Second,
finishing high school helped to start my future,
for example,
before I graduated high school, I lived with my parents, I didn't really have my own job, but once I graduated, I went on to college, I had my first real job and I lived away from home. So it was the beginning of my future.

The most memorable person in my life is
my older sister.
She supported me in various ways when I needed help in studying.
For example,
she taught me math herself,
and
she often bought me reference books to help me study.
On top of all of this,
she
also
counseled me whenever I had personal problems.
For these reasons,
my older sister is the most memorable person in my life.

Make students listen correctly, then they can also speak correctly!
The key to successful pronunciation teaching is not so much getting students to produce correct sounds or intonation tunes, but rather to have them listen and notice that English is spoken-either on audio or video or by their teachers themselves.
The more aware they are, the greater the chance that their own intelligibility levels will rise.

Personally, I believe there is no person in my community more influential than the local newspaper editor.

First,
he can influence how people think about issues by the way that he writes the daily editorial. Many people read these editorials,
so
they often help change people's opinions.

Also,
the newspaper editor determines which stories will run in his newspaper.
Because of this,
he can leave out some news and stress other stories by putting them on the front page.
I consider William Shakespeare to be the most admirable person in history.

There are a couple of reasons for this.

First,
he wrote a large number of excellent plays in his lifetime.
Also,
these plays covered many different genres,
so
he was a very versatile writer, too.

Second,
he understood a lot about human nature and behavior. His play can still teach people lessons even today.
Of all of the people that I can think of, I admire Abraham Lincoln more than anyone else in history.

First of all,
he led the United States through one of its most difficult periods during the Civil War. President Lincoln was the man most responsible for preserving the United States.

Also,
Lincoln is the epitome of the self-made man. He was born in a log cabin, educated himself, and became very successful thanks to his hard work.
Based on my experience, I regard trustworthiness as the most important characteristic of a good friend.

First of all,
all people need someone with whom they can speak openly.

people need a trustworthy friend to share secrets with.
Second of all,
a trustworthy friend can give people good advice that they will be willing to follow. When people have problems, they often look for advice,

Describe the most influential person in your group or community, and explain why you chose that person. Include details in your explanation.
In my opinion, the most influential person in my area
is the mayor of my city.
First of all, he is the man who
decides how to spend the taxpayers' money.
Since
money is very important,
he has a lot of power and influence.

Also,
the mayor decides the policies that the city will follow.
This includes
education, construction, housing, and employment.
Because
he has power over these issues, he controls many things in the city.
This gives him a large amount of influence.

What was the most memorable event you have experienced in your life? Explain why it was memorable. Include details in your explanation.
The most memorable event in my life happened when
I hit the
game-winning
homerun in a baseball game.
I remember it well because it was the day that all of my hard work and practice finally paid off.

After that game,
I became really popular, and people treated me like I was a hero for a long time.

That was
easily
the most memorable moment of my life.
Unit 2. Event
What is the most important holiday in your country? Why do you think it is so important? Include details in your explanation.
In my opinion, the holiday that I think the most important is
Christmas.
For one,
Christmas
is a holiday when many people get to visit and see relatives that they usually do not get a chance to be with. So it helps remind people of the importance of being with their families. Additionally,
Christmas
is a peaceful time, and most people focus on thinking about giving to others and living better lives. People often donate to charities and assist others during
Christmas,
so I think that this makes
Christmas
an important holiday.
Describe the most memorable festival you have ever experienced. Why was it memorable? Include details in your explanation.
For me, the most memorable festival I have attended
was the Beach Film Festival
that I went to a few years ago.

It was
so
exotic
because
lots of people just sat on the beach and watched movies together. As a matter of fact, I had never seen anything like it before.

Plus,
I
got to
see a lot of films that I really enjoyed. I rarely go to the movies,
so
it was a great experience to see so many films in just a couple of days.
What is the most important social or political event in your country? Why is it important? Include details in your explanation.
I believe that weddings are the most important social events in my country.

First of all, weddings bring together not only two people but also two separate families. So weddings are chances for two families to become one.

Also, hundreds of people attend Korean weddings, so many friends and family members can see each other.

This makes them very important social events here in Korea.

Unit 3. Place
What is the city you would like to live in the most? Why do you want to live in that city? Include details in your explanation.
Based on my experience, I feel that the best city to
live in
is Seattle.

Actually,
Seattle
is a place where
environmental
factors stand out.
Its environment is very diverse. It has mountains, beaches, and even rainforests
nearby.

Also,
the weather in Seattle is
relatively
nice all year long.
Even
during the summer, it is comfortable with
rather
low humidity.
Where is the best place to have a good time with your friends? Explain why you feel that way. Include details in your explanation.
In my opinion, my friends and I all have a great time at the
park.

To begin with,
we get to do many different outdoor activities. We can rollerblade, play soccer, ride our bikes, and do many other fun activities.

Also,

even if
there are a lot of people in the park,
we can still
have fun. Since our local park is very big, it does not matter if the park is crowded. We can still have a great time there.
What is your favorite city that you have visited? Why ? Include details in you explanation.
My favorite city is Los Angeles, California, in the United States.

I have
only been
there a couple of times.
But
the weather in LA is almost always hot and sunny.
That's the kind of
weather which I love the most.

Also, you can see movies stars and
all sorts of
famous people there. The last time I wen
t t
here, I got a couple of autographs from some movie stars.
Describe the most fascinating city attraction in your region. Why is it fascinating? Include details in your explanation.
In my opinion, the most fascinating city attraction is
the dawn market.
Since
it is only open early in the morning and operates in a unique way,
there are
many products for sale that you cannot see at a typical market.

It is also
captivating to watch people working and shopping very early in the morning. I can always see something fascinating when I visit the market.

Describe the book that you have found the most interesting. Explain why it is interesting. Include details in your explanation.
The book I found the most interesting is
The Lord of the Rings.

In this novel, it was not only the plot but also the characters that made the story interesting. In the case of
The Lord of the Rings,
there were so many interesting characters that the story never bored me.

And, also,
The Lord of the Ring
has many connections to theology and mythology.
These combined to make the book incredibly interesting.
What do you think is mankind's greatest invention?
Why do you feel this way? Include details in your explanation.
In my opinion, mankind's greatest invention was

the
automobile.

First,
the automobile
gave many people access to
fast, cheap transportation.
This allowed people to
begin traveling to many different places.

Also, the automobile has helped
bring people closer together.
Nowadays, it is possible to
travel hundreds of miles in a single day.

This was impossible before the invention of the
automobile.
Describe the movie that affected you the most. Explain why it affected you. Include details in your explanation.
I think the movie that affected me the most
is I Am Sam.

The reason for this is that it made me think about
parental love and how lucky I am that my parents love me.

Also, since it was a film about
a retarded father and his daughter,
I thought a lot about
people with handicaps
after watching this movie.

This film really helped me think about many different important topics.
Describe the most memorable class that you can think of. Explain why it is memorable. Include details in your explanation.
I think the movie that affected me the most was
Rocky.

As you know,
Rocky
is a story about courage. After watching this movie, I realized the true meaning of courage.

Also, I though a lot about how I should never give up on my dreams. All throughout the movie,
Rocky
never gives up hope and tries to make his dreams come true.
The most memorable class that I can think of is
English Literature.

During this class, our teacher made me think a lot about how people write. Doing this actually
helped me become a better writer.

Also, I really enjoyed
analyzing characters and personalities.
Because of this class, I now enjoy
reading and try to read as many books as I can each month.
Some students study for an exam
up to the exact moment
that it starts. Others
stop studying
an hour or more before it begins. Which method do you prefer and why? Include details and examples in your explanation.
Some people like to
travel alone
. Others like to
travel with different people.
Which option do you prefer and why?
Some students like to
study alone
while others like to
study in groups.
Which do you think is better and why? Include details in your explanation.
Unit 5. Education
Some people think that they can
learn better by themselves
than with a teacher while others think that it is always better to
learn from a teacher.
Which do you think is better for you and why? Include details in your explanation.
Unit 6. Life
If you had some extra money, would you spend it right away or save it? Which choice do you prefer and why? Include details in your explanation.
Some people like to spend their free time doing indoor activities while others like to spend their free time doing outdoor activities. Which do you prefer and why? Include details in your explanation.
Unit 7. School
Some high schools require all of their students to wear school uniforms. Other high schools permit their students to decide what to wear to school. Which of these two school policies do you think is better and why? Include details in your explanation.
Some people believe that students should have one long vacation each year. Others believe that students should have several short vacations throughout the year. Which viewpoint do you agree with and why? Include details in your explanation.
Unit 8. Multimedia
Some people like to use the internet while others like to use books in the library when they look for information. Which option do you prefer and why? Include details in your explanation.
Some people think that governments should spend as much money as possible on developing technology. Other people disagree and think this money should be spent on more basic needs. Which opinion do you agree with and why? Include details in your explanation.

Reading & Conversation
For this task, you will read a short passage of
campus-related
interest, and you will listen to two people having a
conversation
about it. Then you will be asked a question based on the reading and listening. The question will require you to
state the opinion of one of the speakers
and to summarize the reasons behind it. So, it is important to remember this task does
not require you to state your own opinion
and thoughts about the reading or listening.
Health Club Fees

The man is not pleased that the students have to pay for admission to the school's health club. Even though the fee is small, he thinks it is a lot of money for him to spend. Plus, he states that he doesn't like the fact that the students have to pay for things like books, late fees, and lab fees in addition to their tuition. He feels that the school is charging them enough for lots of different things already. Finally, he believes that it is very unfair that the members of the students body have to pay but members of the school's sports teams do not, especially because the football team and coach were the ones who wanted to have the changes made.

W: hey, Pete, are you going to join the health club after Christmas?
M: If it were free, sure. But since it's not, I guess I'm not.
W: It's only twenty bucks.
M: Twenty busks is a lot of money to some people, Sue. These renovations and new equipment should be paid by the university.
We pay enough here already. They charge us for everything...books, lab fees, photocopying, and late fees at the library. It is too much.
W: Yeah, I guess so, but the health club really needs this. It's in bad shape, and the equipment is ancient.
M: You know most of that equipment is less than two years old? I talked to a guy in the Athletic Department, and he said it was the football coach and team that pushed for the renovations. And they don't have to pay since they are on a sports team.
W: No, that can't be true. They won't make us pay and have some others use it for free.
M: You'll see. Wait until January. It's not fair. If we pay, they should pay also.
W: Did you hear about the new writing class? I think this is a waste of time considering that all of us can already write. Why do we need to learn writing? We will become scientist, not writers?
M: Oh, do you think so? Well, I disagree with you. I think these new classes are great! I always hated English classes, so I never developed any writing skills. You know, these classes will not just be about writing but will also teach us how to be more persuasive. Hopefully, taking these classes can help me get into graduate school.

to the point
When I study for exams,
I like to
study right up until the last minute.

I feel that
stopping an hour or so
before the test
is a waste of
a good hour of study time. As far as I am concerned, it is important to
cram
as much information into my head as possible, so I should use
every last minute
before the test.

There have been many times when
something I studied right before an exam appeared on the test. I was repaid for being
diligent
in my studies.
I

much
prefer
traveling with others
to
traveling alone.
I feel this way for the following reasons.

First,
it is
safer
to travel with others than to travel alone. Some places can be dangerous, so it is safer to travel with a group of people.

Second,
you can save money on places
like
hotels if you travel with others. Hotels are cheaper if you split the cost with someone else.
I like
studying in groups
better than
studying alone.

First,
when I am in a group, everyone can correct one another when we make mistakes.

Second,
we can explain the things that we do well to others.
So,
if I am good at something but some other members are not, I can explain it to them to help them understand.
For me, studying alone
is much better than
studying in groups.

To begin with,
I can study the things that I want to study when I am alone. In a group, I may not get to study the topics that I need to focus on.

In addition,
I feel that I can improve much more quickly by studying alone. I don't have to
study at others' paces,
so I can study much faster by myself. This helps me to improve at
a better rate
than I would if I were studying in a group.
To tell the truth, I
really prefer
studying in groups.

As a matter of fact, I often have trouble
focusing
when I study alone.
But,
when I study in a group, I can focus much better.

And another thing
is that if you study in a group, you can hear more opinions about
the subject at hand.
So the group helps me
gain a wider perspective
on the issue I am studying.
In my opinion,
it's
always better
to learn with a teacher.

For one thing,
teachers can provide me with the information
I need in order to understand the textbooks.
After all,
books can't teach us everything.

For another thing,
learning with teachers can reduce the number of mistakes we make. They can guide us in our studies and
keep
us
from
making too many errors.
As for me,
I prefer
studying by myself to studying with a teacher.
There are two reasons I feel this way
.

First, by studying alone,
I can choose the study method that
suits me the best.
I know much better than a teacher the way that I prefer to study.

Second of all,
when I study by myself, I can develop my
creativity
as well as increase my knowledge. When I study with a teacher, I have to follow the teacher's methods. This isn't creative. By myself, however, I can improve my creative ability.
I think that I would save the money.

For one,

saving for a rainy day
is always important. I want to be prepared in case something bad happens in the future. If I spend the money now, I won't be prepared for the future.

In addition,
if I save now, I can have more money in the future. By
putting the money in the bank or investing it in some other way,
I can make my money grow. That way, I'll have more money in the future.
I think
I would prefer

to spend all of the money
right away.

First,
because of
inflation
, the value of money decreases as time passes.
So,
the best way to
get full value
for my money is to spend it
immediately.

Second, spending money can help the economy grow. If people don't buy anything, then companies have no need to
manufacture
more products.

So
it's important for people like me to spend money.
As for me, I've always liked to my free time outdoors. The reasons are simple. First, outdoor activities are generally healthier than indoor ones. I can play sports, jog, or do many other healthy activities. Second, since I stay indoors most of the time, it is important to spend time outside. It's good for the body to spend some time outside in the sun.
When I have free time, I prefer to spend it indoors. The reasons are as follows. First, if I spend my free time indoors, I don't need to worry about the weather. That way, if it rains or snows, it won't interrupt my plans. Next, indoor activities are typically safer than outdoor ones. Therefore I don't have to worry that much when I am inside doing something. If I were outside, I would often have to consider my safety.
When it comes to school uniforms, I believe that it is a good idea. First of all, uniforms give students a feeling of togetherness. Students wearing the same uniform will feel closer to their classmates because of their uniforms. Additionally, uniforms can increase school spirit. Many students are proud of their uniforms, and this, in turn, makes them proud of their schools.
In my opinion, students should be able to wear whatever they want. For one, wearing their own clothes allows students to express themselves. Students prefer wearing all kinds of different clothes and colors. Schools should allow the students to express themselves as individuals. Furthermore, uniforms take away from students' individuality. Students don't want to wear the same clothes others are wearing. Instead, they prefer the kinds of clothes they like, not the ones that the principal tells them to wear.
I think that it's better for students to have many short vacations as opposed to one long one. I feel this way for a couple of reasons. First, a long vacation interrupts the flow of studying. Once students return to school after a long vacation, it takes them a couple of weeks to get used to studying again. Second of all, frequent short vacations help students keep their stress down. School can be very stressful, so giving students one or two weeks to recover every couple of months is a good way to reduce students' stress.
As far as I'm concerned, a long vacation is more preferable to a short one. Since the vacation lasts a long time, students can benefit in many ways. First, students can take long trips during these vacations. These trips are not only fun but also sometimes educational. Indeed, students can learn things on these trips that they cannot learn in school. Also, it is possible to get a part-time job during a long vacation. This will provide students with invaluable job experience for future.
In my experience, it's better to use the Internet than books in a library. First of all, the Internet is more convenient. I can get all of the information that I want by using the computer in my home. Also, the Internet has more information. I can get information from places all over the world off the Internet. That is impossible to do in a library.
As for me, I am partial to using books in library when I need information. First, books have more reliable information. All books have editors to check over them for mistakes. But anyone can put information on the Internet. You can't always trust everything you read on the Internet. Also, books are easier to read. I like to pick up a book when I read it. Reading from a computer screen is sometimes inconvenient.
In my opinion, it’s better to use the library than the internet. First of all, a librarian can help me find whatever I’m looking for. This is convenient because it saves me time. When I use the internet, it is sometimes slow because I am not sure how to find the information that I want. Also, sometimes the books in the library have information that the internet does not. Plus, most of my schoolwork only requires information form books in the library, not information from the internet.
In my opinion, governments should spend more money on satisfying people's basic needs. First, people's needs are more important than improving existing technology. A government's first obligation is o take care of its people. Next, private organizations, not the government, can develop technology on their own. In fact, these organizations are often much more efficient than governments at developments at developing new technology.
I believe that taking care of the basic needs of people is more important than developing better technology. I have two reasons for feeling this way. First, a society with advanced technology will still have problems if it lack basic needs. A society is no good if the people using advanced technology don't have enough food to eat. Second, solving people's needs can eventually lead to the development of new technology. Once people have solved their own problems of food, health, and housing, they can devote all their energy toward improving technology.
I believe the government should spend as much money as possible on developing technology. First, people should be able to take care of themselves without relying on the government. If people work hard, they can take care of their own needs. The government shouldn't get involved in people's private lives. In addition, advanced technology can help improve everyone's quality of life. For example, if people create better farming methods, food can become cheaper and more plentiful. That will improve people's lives, so they don't need to depend upon the government.
In my opinion, priority should be given to developing technology. For one thing, the country with the best technology will be able to dominate in this age of globalization. Therefore, our government should invest as much as possible to develop new technology. Second of all, we should not give up on the future for the needs of a small number of people. For the most part, there are few people starving and without homes. The government should sacrifice the needs of the many for the needs of the few. For these reasons, the government should invest in technology.

Crossbreeding
The process by which two plants or animals are bred with one another in order to attain the desired offspring is known as crossbreeding. Typically, crossbreeding is done because it can help the offspring gain important traits, such as resistance to disease, different colors in the case of flowers, or enhanced productivity or nutritional value. Crossbreeding is also used to created new strains of plants, trees, and flowers. As a general rule, those offspring produced as a result of crossbreeding are stronger and more desirable than both of their parents.
