On the day of June 28, 1971... Success at a young age Elons Family The making of PayPal SpaceX Born to Maye Haldeman and Eroll Musk, No one would have imagined that Elon Musk would one day become the inventor of successful businesses, such as Zip2, Paypal, SpaceX, and Tesla Motors. Elon also has two siblings; Kimbal and Tosca Musk. In 2004, Elon married a beautiful woman named Justine Musk. They had six children together, but one died at infancy. Elon and Justine have a set of twins and a set of triplets. His children are named Kai, Xavier, Griffin, Damian, and Saxon Musk. Sadly, in 2008, Elon and Justine announced their divorce.But Elon was not single for long. In 2010, he met his second wife, Talulah Riley. They were only married for 2 years and in 2012, they also separated. Elon and Talulah had no children together. In his twenties, Elon had become a multimillionare when he sold his start up company (Zip2) to a division of compaq computers. Zip2 was an online city guide that provided content for the new websites of both New York Times and The Chicago Tribute. In 1999, Zip2 was sold for $307 Million in cash and $34 million in stock options. This was just the beginning of his great success... In 1999, Elon founded X.com via a 2000 merger, which later (October 2002) became a website we all know and use; PayPal. PayPal was acquired by Ebay for $1.5 Billion in stock. Before the sale, Elon owned 11% of PayPal stock. SpaceX, Elons third company, was founded in 2002. NASA awarded the company the contract to handle cargo transport for the international space station. On May 22, 2012, Musk and SpaceX made history when the company launched its Falcon 9 rocket into space with an unmanned capsule. The vehicle was sent to the International space station with 1,000 pounds of supplies for the astronauts stationed there. This was the first time a private company sent a spacecraft to the International space station. Of the launch, Elon was quoted as saying, "I feel very lucky.... For us, it's like winning the super-bowl" The beginning of his success At 10, Elon has his first computer, and at just 12, he made his first software sale; A game called Blaster At the age of 17, in 1989, Elon moved to Canada to Pursue a dream and attended Queens college, but left in 1992 to study business in physics at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in economics and stayed for a second bachelors degree in physics form The Wharton School. Tesla Motors In 2003, Elon co-founded Tesla Motors. He is currently CEO, chairman, and product architect here. He oversaw the development of the Tesla Roadster. He is reported to have a 32% stake in Tesla, which is currently valued above $1 billion, as of March 2012 Did you know?
