Building Information Modelling
Building Information Management
So what is it?
Both!!
It should actually be written as
B.I.M.M.
OK, let's see what the definition says...
“A Building Information Model (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. As such it serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle from inception onward.”

Now let's analyse the core system of BIM
Is it a 3D Model?
Is it a Database?
Or is it a Process?
Answer:
A combination of all three
Or
Ok, so now let's see how FOX News understands BIM
So how is this happening?
We will now discuss the BIM Environment
4D
What exactly we do in 4D BIM
As of now, a BIM model is imported into a 3rd party application to perform
Navigation & Visualization
Clash detection
and Performing Construction Sequence Simulation
5D
As of now, a BIM model is imported into a 3rd party application to perform
General Model inspection
Quantity take-off
Visual Estimation
3D + Time + Cost = 5D
4D & 5D are often used interchangeably
BIM is about taking initiative, and you don't need to be a Rooster to take the lead.
Thank you for your time, and if there are questions, don't wait now, ASK and SHARE your thoughts.

The National BIM Standard (NBIMS) Part of global buildingSMART Information Delivery Manual Initiative
Fundamentally, Building Information Modelling is the process by which Designers and Engineers alike may Generate and Manage building data throughout a buildings lifecycle, from inception through to demolition and beyond.
One of the problems with existing
2D drafting techniques is that the elements
which were being graphically represented were

not assigned any real-world properties.
BIM Technologies
have in-built real-world information for
each individual
component of a building design
. Therefore, should an issue
arise, BIM Software will immediately notify the designer
of the issue, which must be resolved in order to continue the
project. This virtual use of real-world properties means
that
if it cannot work virtually, it cannot work in real life
. Therefore
BIM Technology is informing the designer of how the building
is physically working, hence the designer in turn develops a
deeper understanding of the project and how it's individual
elements interact. This knowledge gained will then repeat
itself in the designers future work,
which will in turn
improve the overall quality of design and construction
projects the world over.
-Niall Kelly
If it can be imagined, it can be modeled
If it can be modeled, it can be communicated
And if it can be communicated, it can be constructed, operated and demolished

BIM
A 3D Model
A Database
A Process
BIM as A 3D Model
Intelligent model
Parametric Architectural, Structural and MEP elements which are dynamic in nature
It has graphical and non graphical information embedded in it.
Both type of information are interlinked.
BIM as A Database
A database embedded in 3D model
It can effectively extract schedule of any component used in the model.
Since all components can be made parametric, it means any information can be embeded in the model, such as OmniCalss Specs or CoBIE
Link the specification (e-Specs) & as the 3D modeling is being done, Specification is also building up.
BIM as A Process
BIM leads to Integrated Project Delivery
It incorporates multi-disciplinary teams in its folds from Owner-Architects to Construction & Facility Managers
It suits best to a collaborative team system
It forms an environment where everyone breaths BIM
