Introductory: how to watch this presentation in prezi Brainstorming on the last day Problem mapping Outcomes of the first group Outcomes of the second group TOPIC OF THE PROJECT
and project structure Project structure REVIEWED Following activities I decided to put some results of our workshop in the form of this presentation. It is very easy to follow.
Just use the bottom right arrow to navigate. As you probably remember, we decided to devote the last day of our workshop to the discussion of the project objectives and structure. The following logic chain was suggested Problems
Questions Objectives Activities Methods Partners Work packages Finance Sites For the beginning we decided to concentrate on the main problems existing in the region. To make the ideas exchange more effective we devided the audience into two groups. Each group had approximately half an hour to prepare their map of problems The first group firstly identified the whole scope of existing problems... ... and then arranged them in 5 groups Public provision Social Marketing Ecology Farming Lack of visions (scenarios) of future Lack of government involvement and no interest Lack of information Lack of visions of future development Disappearance of traditional ecological knowledge (young people do not really use it) Sale of grasslands and meadows No "valuation" (monetary) of biodiversity Lack of entrepreneurial knowledge and motivation Unemployment Low perceived/ actual quality of life for young people Lack of education Community management of resources Lack of infrastructure Vertical supply chains
--> industry Problems with access to markets
infrastructure
quality
supply Lack of market Lack of market and processing of products Low milk prices Biodiversity loss
ecosystems
species
genes Abandonment Intencification Agriculture and tourism are interconnected Spoiling the environment (rubbish, collecting the plants from the Red list) Goods in connection
with consumers (what
they want and expect) Quality of milk products Barrier --> Credit Non-profit agriculture The second group identified three main groups of problems Ecology Economics Sociology In the ecological part two groups of problems were highlighted Strong interconnection between economic and socilogical problems was specially noted 1. Biodiversity conservation which is connected first of all with alpine grasslands special territories for conservation
usage for tourism and recreation
only 50% of alpine pastures are used for grazing 11. Grasslands in forest area three types of land use: mowing -->
grazing --> 60% degraded
arable land --> problem of potato nemathodes Degradation of agriculture Low level of agricultural activity Instable markets for agricultural products Instability of state agricultural policy Employment Migration Low level of life Poor state of social infrastructure Demographic problems Vision of future Low entrepreneurial activity Among all options the following was chosen Alternatives in Land Use and Livlihoods
in the Carpathian Mountains:
Options for Biodiversity Conservation
and Rural Development Based on the workshop resulrs, Mr. Rainer Waldhardt presented his view of the project structure We have to work further on the project application

It is first of all important to find an appropriate funding opportunity
It is necessary to decide what the main focus in our interdisciplinary project is
We have to decide on partners and working groups structure and composition

The next opportunity to meet for the project discussion is the Conference of ecological society which will take place in Giessen (August 30 - September 3, 2010).

Till that time we should try to prepare a draft of the proposal to be able to discuss it and the structure of the following work.

I hope I have not forgotten anything. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or corrections, please don't hesitate to contact me:
