• Jhumpa Lahiri was born in 1967
• Parents are Indian immigrants who moved to London (where she was born)
• Moved to Rhode Island when she was a child
• Studied Literature at Barnard College
• Was accepted to Fine Arts Work Center in MA in 1998. (Began writing short stories)
• Published Sexy in 1998

• 1990: Internet is introduced to the world
• 1992: Bill Clinton becomes president (affair scandal)
• 1994: American shows focused on mainly single adults.

• Sexy was a part of a nine-story collection called Interpreter of Maladies in 1999
• Won the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 (First of South Asian descent to win)

Distracted, she begins thinking of her own affair with an Indian man named Dev (ironic, right?)

He takes her to museums and teaches her about geography

She attempts to dress sexy for him but it doesn’t take

He pesters Miranda all day, going through her things and following her everywhere
He finds some of her ‘sexy’ clothing and asks her to try it on
When she does he calls her sexy, gets into her bed and falls asleep (remind you of anyone?)
After Miranda sees the effect Rohin’s parents have on him, she decides to end things with Dev, concluding that she is better off single
