The muscular system is an organ system consisting of skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles. It permits movement of the body, maintains posture, and circulates blood throughout the body.
Types of Muscle
1)Nerves send messages to muscle cells, which are also known as fibers, commanding them to contract, or shorten and thicken, to move a bone.
2) Many skeletal muscles do this by working in pairs.
One muscle in the pair contracts to move the bone in one direction and then the other muscle in the pair contracts to move the bone back.
ex (muscle pair): biceps and triceps
When a biceps contracts and a triceps relaxes, your arm bends. Your arm straightens when a biceps relaxes and a triceps contracts.

Muscles produce not only those movements that are under the control of our will and that we can see and feel, but also those movements that are responsible for activities like breathing, digestion of food, pumping of blood etc
Keeping a Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is important in keeping muscles healthy. Workouts and activities do help in building muscle, but keeping a well-balanced diet is essential to your muscle health. It helps fuel your exercise sessions and repair muscle fibers. Proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fluids are all essential to your diet. While there are plenty of foods in the food groups to help with muscles, there are certain substances key to keeping your muscles in shape.

How Muscles Work
You can maintain a healthy muscular system by regularly participating in different types of exercise. To help prevent injuries, exercise sessions should include a warm-up and cool-down period. Warm up exercises include things such as jumping jacks. Cool down exercises include stretching and hydrating.
