Hip-hop is a music genre that has stylised, rhythmic music to commonly accompany rapping. Hip-hop has developed into a culture along with other elements such as break dancing and beat boxing. Hip-hop was greatly influenced by disco music. The popularity of his hop music continues through the 2000s and Dr Dre remained an important figure through 2000 producing with Eminem and 50 cent.
Punk Rock is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the UK, USA and Australia. Punk bands created fast, hard edged music that was typically with short songs with striped down instrumentation. They would also often have political, anti-establishment lyrics. This was recognized particularly in many of the Sex Pistols songs. Along with the Sex Pistols, bands such as The Clash, The Damned and The Ramones were being recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement. Typical punk rock instrumentation includes one or two electric guitars, an electric bass, a drum kit and vocals. Songs tend to be shorter than those of other popular genres. Most early punk rock songs retained a traditional rock & roll verse-chorus form and a 4/4 time signature.
The Sex Pistols
Drum & Bass is a type of electronic music which emerged into England in the mid- 1990's. The genre is characterized by fast break beats which are typically between 160-180 BPM. Drum & Bass will have heavy bass and sub-bass lines.
Many artists such as Rudimental, Pendulum and Chase & Status have brought Drum & Bass music to live performances. Musicians will use Drum kits (acoustic or Electric), synthesizers, bass and other instruments.
The genre places great importance on the bass line. Bass lines are performed with a bass instrument whether it is electric, acoustic or a double bass.

Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the United states in the 1950’s and early 60’s. It combines elements of African American gospel music, rhythm and blues and often jazz. Soul music became popular for people to dance to. Soul music has important features such as catchy rhythms that are stressed by hand claps and improvised body moves. Other characteristics are a call and response between the soloist and the chorus, and especially a tense vocal sound. The style also occasionally uses improvisational additions such as twirls and auxiliary sounds.
