Nürnberg Terrestrial Globe The First modern globe by Martin Behaim Created in 1492 in Nürnberg, Duchy of Bavaria, Modern day Germany The globe did NOT include N. and S. America Because it was built in 1492 and Columbus did not get back until 1493, so everyone was assuming you would go directly to Japan Erdapfel is German for "Earth Apple Erdapfel = / Earth Apple Included the mythical St. Brendan, hooray for mythology!
