Transcript of Rainforest
The rainforest ,it has huge trees blocking most of the sunlight .There is still enough sunlight to grow many different kinds of plants under those 4 layers of thick green trees. Some plants are pretty and some are dangerous. Many exotic animals have found homes among the ground and some high up in the green trees.
Leaf cutter ants and fungus are an example of this relationship.
The ants protect the fungi from pests and mold it also feeds it with small pieces of leaves.
The ants keep their larvae in the fungi which protects it and feeds it.
it starts out life growing on a branch of a tree.
It grows both downwards towards the ground and upwards to the sky, while also winding around the tree.
The strangler fig kills the tree by stealing sunlight and root space after enveloping it.
Bromeliads, to get enough light, grow on high branches of trees.
does not do any damage to the tree itself, but it allows the bromeliad to survive
Description: The Leopard is a very large cat. It is orangish and has black spots. Leopards are not very pick eaters. They will eat anything they come upon. The are very fast and usually hone in on their prey and leap at them. The Leopard is not hunted by any creatures, it is on the top of the food chain. They are carnivores which means they only eat meat. They are preyed on by nothing and they prey on boas, monkeys and other medium sized animals.
There are many different species of orchid, at least 10,000 of which can be found in the rainforest. Orchid species can differ greatly from one another, with extreme variations in size, weight and color. While some orchids may only be the size of a nickel when in bloom, others may weigh up to one ton with petals as long as 30 inches, and sprays of small flowers 12 - 14 feet long
Fungi are important organisms and so distinct from plants and animals that they have been allotted a 'kingdom' of their own in our classifications of life on earth. They break down rotting things and return the nutrients to the soil.
In an average year in a tropical rain forest, the climate is very humid because of all the rainfall, which amounts to about 250 cm per year. The rain forest has lots of rain because it is very hot and wet. This climate is found near the equator.
Rain forests belong to the tropical wet climate group. The temperature in a rain forest rarely gets higher than 93 °F (34 °C) or drops below 68 °F (20 °C); average humidity is between 77 and 88%; rainfall is often more than 100 inches a year.
Sunny rays penetrate the canopy of an Indonesian rain forest on Nias Island. Rain forests are among the Earth’s most biologically diverse habitats. Their flora are precious for their own sake but can also aid humans. The Tall and huge population of trees help with the amount of sun the Rainforest gets.
Type of soil
Tropical soils are formed in areas with high annual temperature and rainfall. Even the rainforestes are VASTLY different in organisms and extent, they both have a climate that results in deep, highly weathered soils. The intense weathering causes these soils to be nutrient poor and low in organic matter.
The rainforest has really good oxygen because the rain forest has so many different kind of plants and the plants use photosynthesis to get oxygen.
If a Fire happened...
If a fire happened in the ecosystem it would destroy a big chunk of the trees. The trees are what shades the rain forest from the strong sun since the rain forest is near the equator. Witch would effect the animals that lived in the area because one whole species could get over heated because they are not used to the heat. So some animal might starve because its meal died. In conclusion a big fire would not do anything good for the ecosystem.
