Also they were building their houses in front of south side.
1866 - Auguste Mouchout invented 1st generator of solar power.
Albert Einstein explained photovoltaic effect and use it in production of electicity.
Scientists from Bell Laboratories costructed 1st sollar cell which was made mostly from sillicon.
Energy crisis began intensive development in the field of renewable energy sources.

170 000 000 GW of incoming solar radiation at the Earth's surface.

The term "photovoltaic" comes from the Greek (phōs) meaning "light", and from "volt", the unit of electro-motive force, the volt, which in turn comes from the last name of the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, inventor of the battery.
The term "solar collector" commonly refers to solar hot water panels, but may refer to installations such as solar parabolic troughs and solar towers; or basic installations such as solar air heaters.

A solar collector is basically a flat box and are composed of three main parts:
transparent cover
tubes which carry coolant
insulated back plate
This is independet type of energy.

In the Netherlands, SolaRoad, the world’s first “solar road,” has defied expectations and has generated about 3,000 kWh of power, enough to provide a single-person household with electricity for a year. Considering it’s only a 70 meters long bike path, the potential for this technology could be big, kind of like photovoltaic technology itself.
This aircraft conducted its first test flight in December 2009, and first flew an entire diurnal solar cycle, including nearly nine hours of night flying, in a 26-hour flight on 7–8 July 2010.
