Science notebooks are a way for students to organize their data, notes and observations all in one space.
What are Science Notebooks?
How will they be used?
Pre-Investigation:
Why use them?
Research!
Studies suggests that students who write conceptually 'connect' to their work and make collaborating with their peers easier.

When students use science notebooks, they are acting as SCIENTISTS!

They are:
recording data
predicting/hypothesizing
writing results
composing reflections
communicating findings
DOING SCIENCE
One study by Aschbacher & Baker, 2003, found that students did better on the post-test than those students who were not writing conceptually.
The notebooks have a positive impact on writing achievement.
Literacy
Students spend more time expressing their ideas, conclusions and reflections when the notebooks are used.

Glue or tape
colored pencils

2 composition notebooks
(one for fall, one for spring)
The first few pages will be reserved
for the Table of Contents.

This is the side that students can use to show me what they learned in a creative and colorful way.
