Transcript of THE GLOBE AND STAGING

The globe is a theater. It was a three story wooden form with a courtyard in the middle . Some people paid just one penny to watch the show and they sat in the "pit". The pit is just the area where people stand near the stage. The people that pay more sit in balconies that surrounded the stage. The audience became very involved, they cheered when they liked it and threw rotten vegetables when they didn't.

STAGING
Elizabeth's theater relied on the people's imagination. There was little scenery, no sound effects or props. The audience had to use their imagination. They had to imagine there were females playing the parts. In reality the actors were men dressed as women. During Shakespeare's time in England it was wrong to have woman in theater, Boys had perform as girls.
