Las glicoproteínas participan en la cohesión de los tejidos.
Hay tres tipos de uniones que dan cohesión a los tejidos:

Uniones entre moléculas de la matriz extracelular.
Uniones entre las células y la matriz extracelular.
Uniones entre células contiguas.
GLICOPROTEINAS DE LA MATRIZ EXTRACELULAR
Tenascinas
Son capaces de unirse a moléculas como las integrinas, a los receptores del tipo de las inmunoglobulinas, a los proteoglicanos y a las anexinas II.
LAMININAS


Importantes en la lámina basal.
FIBRONECTINAS
Forman enlaces con el colágeno, proteoglicanos, glicosaminoglicanos, la fibrina, la heparina y a proteínas de la membrana plasmática celular como las integrinas.
