Language Arts IPAD Apps` Vocabador http://edudemic.com/2013/02/vocabulary-apps-for-sat-takers-and-lifelong-learners/ This is an inexpensive ($1.99) all purpose vocabulary app that allows users to study 400+ vocabulary words by using digital flashcards. The words are categorized by difficulty so that you can start with the easier material and work your way up. The flashcards include audio pronunciations, the part of speech, the definition, antonyms, synonyms and a sentence that puts the word in context.

The app also includes a game-style quiz (can be played at different difficulty levels) which quizzes the user on word definitions for an additional way to think about and study the vocabulary. Overall an easy to use, inexpensive app that gets the job done Mindsnacks Is a free app that is a game based design offering 9 games to help users practice their vocabulary. Geared mainly towards SAT-takers, but the app-makers also label it as appropriate for PSAT and GRE as well. Offers 500+ words and phrases, and even includes games that focus on antonyms.

The app has a learning algorithm that tracks your progress and adjusts to help maximize your learning. A fun, easy to use, and effective app. SAT Vocab This may be the most expensive of the three apps we’re discussing today, but at $4.99 it’s still a far cry from expensive (especially if you consider that private SAT tutors can cost $70+/hr! This app uses a technique that they call “confidence based repetition”, which is essentially a repetition method at particular time intervals.

Users can rate how well they knew an answer (did it come to you easily or did you struggle/guess?) and then repeats the concepts you need to learn more. Offers 1400+ flashcards with 300+ word elements (prefixes/suffixes, etc), and the ability to browse and search for certain words. Well worth the $4.99, in our opinion! Graphic Organizers Tool Student Educational Games What Is Evernote? Setting Up A G-Mail Account Jing Facts Schoology Is a social networking service and virtual learning environment for K-12 school and higher education institutions that allows users to create, manage, and share academic content.

Also known as a learning management system (LMS) or course management system (CMS), the cloud-based platform provides tools needed to manage an online classroom.

Allows instructors, students, and administrators to create a meaningful virtual classroom and extend learning beyond the boundaries of the physical classroom. Google Drop Box Facts Pinterest Is an online tool for collecting & organizing things you love. is a pinboard-style photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies, and more.

Users can browse other pinboards for inspiration, re-pin images to their own pinboards, or 'like' photos. Pinterest users can upload, save, sort and manage images, known as pins, and other media content (i.e. videos) through collections known as pinboards.Pinboards are generally themed so that pins can easily be organized, categorized and discovered by other users.

Pinterest acts as a personalized media platform, whereby your own content as well as anyone else's uploaded pins can be browsed on the main page. Users can then save their favorite pins to one of their own boards using the "Pin It" button. Content can also be found outside of Pinterest and similarly uploaded to a board via the Pin It" button which can be downloaded to the bookmark bar on a web browser, or be implemented by a webmaster directly on the website. http://www.6wunderkinder.com/wunderlist) Epals Mobi Is a mobile interactive whiteboardsupport student-centered active learning and give educators the mobility and flexibility to deliver engaging lessons from anywhere in the room. With Mobi there's no need for a traditional interactive whiteboard. The Various http://www.splashtop.com/home First Time Users Sign up: Walk Through Instructions: 1. Make sure you have the splash top2 (for personal) app downloaded first on your ipad or etc. (Go to the apple store or itunes to find it and then download it). 2. Once step 1 is complete,Then go to the URL http://www.splashtop.com/home
on the desktop or computer that you will be using mainly when you use this app. 3. 4. Google Chrome Top Search Engines: Firefox Bing Bing Bing is Microsoft's attempt at unseating Google. Bing used to be MSN search until it was updated in summer of 2009.

This 'decision search engine tries to support your researching by offering suggestions in the leftmost column, while also giving you various search options across the top of the screen. Things like 'wiki' suggestions, 'visual search', and 'related searches' might be very useful to you. Bing is not dethroning Google in the near future, no. But Bing is definitely worth trying. Webopedia Webopedia Google Google is the undisputed king of 'spartan searching'. While it doesn't offer all the shopping center features of Yahoo!, Google is fast, relevant, and the largest single catalogue of Web pages available today. Make sure you try the Google 'images', 'maps' and 'news' features... they are outstanding services for locating photos, geographic directions, and news headlines. Dogpile Dogpile Yahoo! DuckDuckGo DuckDuck Go The Internet Archive The Internet Archive http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/navigatingthenet/tp/top_10_search_engines_for_beginners.htm http://www.bing.com/ Webopedia is one of the most useful websites on the World Wide Web. Webopedia is an encyclopedic resource dedicated to searching techno terminology and computer definitions.

Teach yourself what 'domain name system' is, or teach yourself what 'DDRAM' means on your computer. Webopedia is absolutely a perfect resource for non-technical people to make more sense of the computers around them. Years ago, Dogpile was the fast and efficient choice before Google. Things changed, Dogpile faded into obscurity, and Google became king. But today, Dogpile is coming back, with a growing index and a clean and quick presentation that is testimony to its halcyon days.

If you want to try a search tool with pleasant presentation and helpful crosslink results, definitely try Dogpile. http://www.dogpile.com/ http://www.google.com/ http://www.webopedia.com/ At first, DuckDuckGo.com looks like Google. But there are many subtleties that make this spartan search engine different. DuckDuckGo has some slick features, like 'zero-click' information (all your answers are found on the first results page). DuckDuckgo offers disambiguation prompts (helps to clarify what question you are really asking). And the ad spam is much less than Google. Give DuckDuckGo.com a try... you might really like this clean and simple search engine. https://duckduckgo.com/ This particular search engine is a favorite destination for longtime Web lovers. The Archive has been taking snapshots of the entire World Wide Web for years now, allowing you and me to travel back in time to see what a web page looked like in 1999, or what the news was like around Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

You won't visit the Archive daily, like you would Google, Yahoo, or Bing, but when you do have need to travel back in time, use this search site. http://archive.org/index.php Yahoo Yahoo! is several things: it is a search engine, a news aggregator, a shopping center, an emailbox, a travel directory, a horoscope and games center, and more.

This 'web portal' breadth of choice makes this a very helpful site for Internet beginners. Searching the Web should also be about discovery and exploration, and Yahoo! delivers that in wholesale quantities.

http://www.yahoo.com/ YIPPY (Yippy , Formely Known AS Clusty) Yippy is a Deep Web engine that searches other search engines for you. Unlike the regular Web, which is indexed by robot spider programs, Deep Web pages are usually harder to locate by conventional search.

That's where Yippy becomes very useful. If you are searching for obscure hobby interest blogs, obscure government information, tough-to-find obscure news, academic research and otherwise-obscure content, then Yippy is your tool. http://www.clusty.com/ Ask Jeeves The Ask/AJ/Ask Jeeves search engine is a longtime name in the World Wide Web. The super-clean interface rivals the other major search engines, and the search options are as good as Google or Bing or DuckDuckGo.

The results groupings are what really make Ask.com stand out. The presentation is arguably cleaner and easier to read than Google or Yahoo! or Bing, and the results groups seem to be more relevant. Decide for yourself if you agree... give Ask.com a whirl, and compare it to the other search engines you like. http://www.ask.com/ IPAD Facts Mahalo Mahalo Mahalo is the one 'human-powered' search site in this list, employing a committee of editors to manually sift and vet thousands of pieces of content. This means that you'll get fewer Mahalo hit results than you will get at Bing or Google. But it also means that most Mahalo results have a higher quality of content and relevance (as best as human editors can judge).

Mahalo also offers regular web searching in addition to asking questions. Depending on which of the two search boxes you use at Mahalo, you will either get direct content topic hits or suggested answers to your question.

Try Mahalo. You might like it enough to even become a editor there. http://www.mahalo.com/ Webopedia Webopedia http://www.webopedia.com/ Webopedia is one of the most useful websites on the World Wide Web. Webopedia is an encyclopedic resource dedicated to searching techno terminology and computer definitions. (Please note: This may take faster to do on a newer computer than a slower on an old computer depending on your internet speed for downloading items).

7. After step 6 is finished , you may then get a little box that pops up that says (Do you want to run this software) Please click on run. 8. After step 7 is completed a series of boxes will start poping up & downloading automatically the remaining Splashtop files. That will take 2 to 3 secs then the installsheild wizard box will pop up automatically and say complete. ( Now you can click on finish) Splashtop Instructions Continued: 9. Accept the terms of service , when the box pops up 10. Now you will then be able to choose the ( create a splashtop account option) at the bottom. Choose an email address you will always use to log in & and password that you can remember.
Once that is done, (be sure to click on create account and a message should then say account created when that is done. 11. You will then see your computer name, Status, you can change your settings and etc. The (About) tab in this box has more website information about splashtop that offers Tech support & help if any questions or concerns need to be answered . Splashtop (Please Note: Whenever you don't want to use splashtop , please log out of your ipad or pc and when that happens either your ipad or pc will loose connection and sign you out and then you have to log back in on your pc first and then on ipad when ready to use again.) Make sure your projector is turned on and connected to your pc that's using splashtop to be able to show what you are doing on to your screen. Once this app is downloaded on a pc and ipad it stays unless it is unistalled . If that happens then Splashtop must be added back using the same steps that have been discussed depending on if it was removed from pc or ipad.) Splashtop is a special remote app that allows a user to remotely connect to a main computer first then connect to a mobile device (Ipad) or cell phone or vice versa to access content & run project applications.

When you think of Splashtop, think of standing in front of a mirror looking in it and seeing the reflection of yourself starring back at you. Or think of using a cell phone blue tooth connecting to a phone so you can use it. That is exactly what the splashtop app does. It is a Remote Desktop based technology tool that can transmit images from a main computer and/or ipad on to a projector screen in a classroom for students to be able to see what teachers are doing or showing on their main computer or ipad then projected on to the projection screen so the whole class can see and etc. This app gives teachers freedom to move around the class room to show videos , control them, and show etc lessons that projects the images off ipads and pcs on to screens. This can also be used in meetings and etc outside of school for special or ordinary presentations. http://www.splashtop.com/support (For more information): Breakdown Did you know that your ipad is a wireless slate interactive whiteboard too. It has the same software that an interactive board or mobi uses only better because you can move anywhere in the room and engage students in learning like a mobi. With a mobi you cant search the internet, with an ipad you can. The mobi that many teachers already have came with (installation cd's). If the software was already downloaded from those cd's on the desktop or laptop being utilzed by teacher then, the mobi page workspace is already there. Put the (Mobi workspace icon) on your desktop for fast & easy access. With that , teachers can log on to splash top if they wish to project what they are doing from ipad to projector so students can see.

The (mobi software discs ) offers workspace software that allows teachers to build lessons with drag-and-drop capability, capture images and text from the internet, annotate over any image or text on your computer, and utilze a host of tools such as a ruler or projector. All this can be done by the teacher from the ipad. (So even if you don't have the mobi then, the ipad can be used as a mobi as well , as long as the mobi software is downloaded on your pc already .( If not then do so). Stylus Pen What Is a Stylus Pen? Is a great writing utensil used for navigating, drawing, or providing more precision when using touchscreens tools like ipads, iphones, mobis, touchscreen desktop screens, and etc. Some schools may issue them to teachers with school issued ipads but if not then just buy your own.

Stylus pens makes it easier for users to click on items on touch screen tools better rather than just always having to click & touch with fingers. It cuts down fingerprints & scratches that can be left when touching ipads and etc touchscreen devices. Some stylus's have ball point ends. Take your pick. Some are cheap & some are expensive depending on the brand or type you may be looking for. It is advised that if you have an ipad or getting ready to purchase one, please invest in getting the cover to go with it. Most covers are usually sold seperately from the ipad iteslf unless you can get it in a bundle deal that electronic stores offer sometimes.

It is not a great idea to buy an ipad and not get the case to go with it while using it.
