Trouble between the Balkan kingdoms and people who surrounded them caused World War 1
In late AD 300s the Balkan peninsula became part of the eastern.
Yugoslavia broke up because of fights and conflict between other countries and themselves.

Balkan Countries, history:

The geography of eastern Europe includes the Carpathian mountains
the Black Sea
the Baltic Sea
the Adriatic Sea
the Great Hungarian Plain
& the Balkan Peninsula.

Physical Geography:

Some of the resources include the Great Hungarian Plains, the Black Baltic The Interior plains ,which are full of forests and grassy plains, help provide this region with many resources.
The Hungarian Plains are great for farming.
Adriatic Sea provides a rich fishing industry.

Resources:

It is mostly centered around cities.
Prague, Kiev, and Budapest are very important.
Budapest is the capital of Hungary.
The cities are popular tourist destinations.
People from all over the world visit eastern Europe.

Cities:

Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Moldova are republics.
Belarus claims to be a republic, but it really is a dictatorship.
The inland countries of eastern Europe belong to Commonwealth of independent states and many more alliances.

Government Today:

History:

Now what is called Czech Republic and Slovakia used to be many small kingdoms.
The Hungarian language is based on the language of the Magyars.
Ukrainian and Belarusian languages are written in the Cyrillic, or Russian, alphabet.

The main religion in this region is Roman Catholic.
In this region the cultures can be similar, different, or sometimes even strange.
Here potatoes and sausage are very popular, also seafood.
