Capital of Sonora- Hermosillo Cocido- beef cooked with garbanzos, sweetcorn, string beans, squash, carrots, potato, and cabbage Camarones a la Parrilla- shrimp in their shells, prepared on a grill and served with ample of garlic sauce. Museo de Sonora- originally a penitentiary facility, which now houses historical objects. Municipal Palace- located in Alamos; also worth visiting. Gran Desierto del Pinacate Natural Park- an extinct volcanic zone, is characterised for its amazing landscape. Sonora is the second largest state in Mexico. Being the second largest state in Mexico, Sonora is sparsely populated. Mountainous and arid, the region is sunny almost year–round and has little rainfall. Nearly all of Mexico’s copper is produced here. One of the most representative dances of the state and pride of all its people, is "La Danza del Venado" or The Dance of the Deer, created by the Yaqui tribe which inhabits the southern part of the state, and also known as the Mazoyiwa dance. The coastal regions of the state are generally warm and dry

state is temperate and dry with

an average year-round temperature of about 16°c (61°f). In the mountain regions, temperatures can be much cooler.

In Hermosillo, the average year-round temperature is about

23°c (75°f). The average rainfall in the capital is about 24

centimeters (9.5 inches) per year. Sonora had a total population of 2,216,969 in 2000; of the total, 1,110,590 were men and 1,106,379 were women. Explored by Spaniards in the 1530s, Sonora became an important colonial copper, gold, and silver-mining district.
